The Southeastern Theatre Conference (SETC) is a membership organization with 4,450+ active individual members and 450+ active organizational members (arts related, educational institutions, theatres, etc.) from across the nation. COVID-19 THEATRE RESOURCES Theatre is about human connection that once in a lifetime moment of exchange between actor and audience. Simply, that’s what makes the COVID-19 pandemic so very difficult, particularly for our industry, because it has deprived that exchange which inspires our work andstirs our beings.
EVENTS AND FESTIVALS Annual SETC Convention. ROBERT PORTERFIELD SCHOLARSHIP The Robert Porterfield Graduate Scholarship is awarded to a student pursuing a graduate degree in theatre. Robert Porterfield was the founder and longtime director of the Barter Theatre in Abingdon, VA. A charter member of SETC and a co-founder of its annual auditions, he continued to support the organization throughout his career. For the 30th volume of Theatre Symposium, the editors return to a topic first proposed twenty years ago in volume 9 (Theatre and Politics in the Twentieth Century) but reimaged to include a broader, more comprehensive time frame: Theatre & Politics.Ideas of what constitutes the political, how the political is performed, and how theatre engages with politics change over time. SETC COMMUNITY THEATRE FESTIVAL The 2019 Community Theatre Festival was held Feb. 28 – March 2, 2019 at Austin-East Magnet High School as part of SETC’s 70th annual convention in Knoxville, TN. SETC Theatre Job Board is an online listing of off-stage, backstage, front-of-house, box-office, technical, creative administrative & educational job openings and audition notices. All SETC members have access to the job board and receive emails SETC COMMUNITY THEATRE FESTIVAL The 2019 Community Theatre Festival was held Feb. 28 – March 2, 2019 at Austin-East Magnet High School as part of SETC’s 70th annual convention in Knoxville, TN.
