New York: Dover Publications Inc.,1991 (ISBN 0 486 40485 4)DL: This is a wonderful and worthwhile book to add to a sewing library. It is a reprint of a vintage sewing book originally published as “Dressmaking Up to Date” in 1905. FAQS — SENSE & SENSIBILITY PATTERNS The Regency Gown and 1914 Afternoon Dress patterns are far more forgiving. This is because the Regency pattern technically doesn't have a waist, and the hipline is very roomy. The 1914 dress pattern allows you to customize the bodice, waistband and skirt REGENCY UNDERTHINGS PATTERN Here are the underpinnings you need to give you the proper Regency foundation! This package includes patterns for a chemise, short stays, and two chemisettes. REGENCY GOWN PATTERN This is my original Regency gown pattern, modeled after the styles of the middle Regency and particularly appropriate for 1810s impressions. I've enjoyed sharing the vintage patterns, graphics, and catalog art I have collected over the years in my Vintage Images section. I still love to study original garments and patterns for inspiration, and it has been fun to post them on the site so that others can enjoy what I've found. BLOG — SENSE & SENSIBILITY PATTERNS I first saw Ang Lee’s beautiful adaptation of “Sense & Sensibility” on the big screen in 1995. It immediately became a favorite that I have watched countless times since its premier. I love all the costumes in the film, but the one that struck me most from the first viewing was Marianne’s beautiful nightgown/wrapper, which Kate Winslet wears in two key scenes.PATTERN RESEARCH
The Elegant Lady's Closet Pattern. If you’re new to this time period, this is the pattern I recommend starting with, as it goes together very easily. 1909 EDWARDIAN DRESS PATTERN The 1909 Edwardian Dress was the winning pattern from the first Young Designers’ Contest! This bookstore would not exist without the expert recommendations and hard work of Suzi Clarke, Dawn Luckham, Sarah Nucci, and Carolann Schmitt.I cannot thank these wonderful ladies enough for working in concert to compile this very comprehensive list of resources for the historical costumer, home sewing enthusiast, and just plain old fan of beautiful clothing. We've organized ROMANTIC ERA DRESS PATTERN With this Romantic Era Dress pattern, you can create a wide variety of dresses for day and evening–plus a jumper that can be worn over a blouse made from my Romantic Blouse pattern. This pattern was inspired by the PBS production of “Wives and Daughters,” which motivated me to look into extant gowns from this transitional time between the Regency and Victorian eras. ROMANTIC BLOUSE PATTERN My Romantic Blouse pattern is meant to go with the jumper you can make from the Romantic Era Dress pattern, but it is also versatile enough to use for other eras. The blouse is definitely an “inspired by” creation and not meant to be period authentic. Made in heirloom fabrics with long sleeves and l EDWARDIAN APRON PATTERN This Edwardian Apron Pattern was inspired by a beautiful circa 1910-1912 pattern in my own collection. I added more sizes and back ties for a nicer fit. REGENCY GOWN PATTERN SUPPLEMENT If you measure between an 18-26 or a DD cup, you’ll need this supplement in addition to the original Regency Gown pattern. This takes the pattern up from size 18 through 26, since it was not possible to fit all the extra pieces onto the two sheets in the original pattern. ELEGANT LADY'S CLOSET PATTERN The Elegant Lady’s Closet pattern has something for everyone! I took some designs I’d played around with years ago and turned them into a “mega pattern.” All of the pieces are totally correct for the time period (ideal for 1790s-1805) and can be mixed and matched to create an entire wardrobe of gown 1914 AFTERNOON DRESS PATTERN This is my 1914 Afternoon Dress pattern, which was inspired by an original design in a 1914 home economics textbook. It is a wonderful pattern for everything from everyday linen REGENCY SPENCER & PELISSE PATTERN I created this pattern by pulling research together from several sources (along with customer requests!). I studied a Spencer jacket in the D.A.R. Museum collection and one at the Valentine. I also drew from Janet Arnold’s wonderful Patterns of Fashion.Cart 0
