MONDAY, AUGUST 26, 2019 EE ARTIFACT REQUIREMENT CHANGE AUGUST 2019 I hope everyone had a great two days of learning at West and North. Below is a memo explaining some changes to the requirements surrounding artifact collection.  Our intent is that this change will help reduce teacher workload for evaluations while still giving valuable feedback on all components. Principals will also be explaining this information during a staff meeting. Changes to Artifact Requirement Posted by Sharon Thiedeat 11:31 AM

MONDAY, AUGUST 5, 2019 DPI BACKGROUND CHECKS AND LICENSING QUESTIONS I am sharing an email I received from David DeGuire at DPI this week. Please read on to learn about new resources for lifetime licenses and procedural changes for submitting licensing questions. You are now required to submit questions electronically rather than byphone.
_
Dear Colleagues,
__The background check requirement for educators who hold a Life or Lifetime license has caused a greater number of questions that we usually receive May - July. At one point earlier this month, we had over 3,000 questions in the queue to be answered. We have made significant progress and are at less than half that now, but we are still receiving approximately 100 new questions per day._ _In order to more efficiently answer questions and make it easier for educators to find the answers themselves, some experts in our agency developed some new resources for our top three issues. Knowing that you also help educators with questions they have, we want to share these resources with you:_ * _Video on how to complete the background check application: https://youtu.be/UrmbD4mVe38_
* _Video on how to pay for the background check application:Â https://youtu.be/lZSbq8qjLC0_
* _Video on creating a WAMS ID:Â __htt ps://youtu.be/lSFlUPS8QXk__Â (text
directions can be found at __https://dpi.wi.gov/cst/data-security/wams/create-account__)_
_Please feel free to share these resources with the educators withwhom you work.
_
_I also want to let you know about some procedural changes we have made. In order to more accurately answer questions in the order in which they were received, we are directing everyone who tries to contact us by phone to submit their question electronically at https://dpi.wi.gov/support/contact-educator-licensing.
Submitting a request through this form will hold the educator's place in line. Someone on my team will contact them by email or phone when it is their turn. This change has also freed up the equivalent of one full-time staff member to answer questions rather than transcribe the voicemails we were receiving.__

NEW TO HR
Hello!
I just finished my first two weeks as Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources. I appreciate everyone's support and well wishes over the past few months. I have been busy hiring new teachers and have been happy to tell them how great it is to work in Waukesha. They have been excited to join, referencing the warm welcome they received in the building they interviewed in, the professional development offered to teachers, our students, and our overall organization. Keep up the great work. Posted by Sharon Thiedeat 10:51 AM

Labels: Board Update EMPLOYEE RECOGNITION AWARD FOR JUNE 2019 - WENDY HAMILTON! The employee recognition award for June 2019 was presented at the June School Board meeting to WENDY HAMILTON.Wendy Hamilton
Wendy has been in the School District of Waukesha since 1996. Her nominators said that she works tirelessly to coach staff members in learning the Comprehensive Literacy Model and Writing Aloud Model. It is not unheard of for her to reply to emails at 1:00 or 2:00 AM (we don't recommend that!). She is the "go to" for many staff members because of her extensive literacy knowledge and the rapport, trust and respect she has fostered with so many staff members in the district...even the ones she is not "responsible" for. Her expertise and experience make her a HUGE asset to literacy teachers in thedistrict.
Some of Wendy's accomplishments are the complete revamp, improvement, and streamlining of the district's intervention program to ensure intervention across the schools is done with fidelity. She created, from scratch, criteria for entrance to intervention and an identification process. She launched and supported the process and criteria to staff throughout the district. Wendy used her vision and influence to create a district literacy intervention team with an agenda that goes beyond 2023. She has molded and motivated teachers to become better literacy teachers through coaching, mentoring, and support. Wendy plans and delivers countless professional development seminars to encourage open conversations about the reading and writing process with teachers, K-12. She is a positive and strong advocate for documenting and organizing student data for the purpose of communicating about students' progress to parents, administration, andclassroom teachers.
She is a valued committee member of the Wisconsin State Reading Association where she works hard to bring information about early literacy throughout the state. She often presents at the Wisconsin State REading Convention where she demonstrates best practices and researched-based literacy practices. She has connected also to higher education professionals and organizations throughout the state of Wisconsin and beyond. On behalf of the School District of Waukesha, we congratulate Wendy Hamilton on being selected to receive the Waukesha School District Employee Recognition Award. Do you know of an employee that is deserving of this recognition? If so, please take a few moments to nominate him or her by completing the nomination form. You can download it from the District website: https://sdw.waukesha.k12.wi.us/Page/198 and scroll down for the Employee Recognition Award or just go to www.waukesha.k12.wi.us and click on Staff, Employee Resources and Forms.
