PC users have been waiting for what seems like forever, and some have been brave enough to use the beta versions. Now, whatever version of Scrivener you’ve been using, it’s time to upgrade and embrace all that Scrivener 3 has to offer. SCRIVENER FOR NON-FICTION WRITERS PROJECT TEMPLATES: CHOOSING THE RIGHT ONE FOR FICTION The developers of Scrivener anticipated many different types of material an author might want to write. For each, there is a separate template: Blank, Fiction, Non-fiction, Scriptwriting, Poetry & Lyrics, and Miscellaneous. If you choose Fiction, there are then three more options: Novel, Novel (with Parts), and Short Story. In an electronic version of a book, the TOC provides links for the reader to click – and jump to the right page. This series of blog posts focus on Scrivener Links, so I will explain how to set up your TOC in anebook here.

5* review on Amazon for EDITING The RedPen Way The RedPen Way really does work! This is a fabulous book about editing, and how to do it! Anne leads us through her step by step plan and makes the whole process look and feel easy. If you're someone who struggles to edit your own work, this book is for you. The reader is guided through a series of editing techniques done in a set order. Only when each is complete can you move onto the next one. Yes, you have to be disciplined, but once you involve yourself in the RedPen way of doing things, everything becomes much easier, and the task of editing, is not so overwhelming. Maria Smith Verifed reviewer, Amazon 5* review on Amazon for EDITING The RedPen Way: A life saver for firsttime author!
As a first time author, this is one book that every serious writer should invest in. Having gone through the editing process myself, I struggled with that process not knowing exactly what I should be looking out for since I was never 'trained' in that aspect. I must say her book is no fluff! If you want clear, concise help in polishing your draft before letting the world see the daylights of your work, please do yourself a favour and use the very practical and useful advice shared in her book. Her well written book took away all the fog I once had about editing and it's quite a life saver for me!Amazon customer
Must-read for all aspiring authors As an author, I used to look forward to editing with about the same emotions as an annual physical! By providing a step by step approach this book has helped turn a painful activity into something far more bearable. I particularly like how she suggests you take off the writing hat and get into a different mindset. It really helps you become far more detached. I think this is a must-read for anyone who struggles with editing - editing their own work, or someone else's.Emma
Gives you a new perspective Love this book! As a new author having published my first book, I never realized how difficult editing your own work would be. I did hire a professional but not until I had read my book over at least 10 times and I was shocked at how many mistakes she still found. Anne Rainbow (totally great name) teaches you how to painlessly go through her steps to a brilliant editing job. This method puts you in a different mindset from being the writer so the problem areas are more visible. It's like in painting (I'm also an artist) when you turn your canvas upside down to get a different perspective. Highly recommended reading for every writer!Amazon customer
Great book to help you increase your editing skills! I not only read this book, I 'studied' it!! It was very informative and the best, simplest explanation I have ever seen on using tense, voice, POV and tone. I thought Anne provided many checklists that help the writer through many of the editing techniques and areas to look for improvements. Her process is so easy to learn, apply and increase anyone's writing skills.Suzy
Learn to write - right! If you like to write, and fiction is you’re nitch, Editing The RedPen Way is a must for you. I found it extremely helpful for nonfiction too! Anne will lead you systematically through each of her ten steps that walk you through a fail proof self-editing process that will help you offer you’re readers a great read. This book is definitely not limited to the writer of fiction. Whether you are writing a letter, email, or blog post you will benefit from this powerful book. You will read it in no time at all, but will reference it often. Let Anne Rainbow help you write – right.Sue M Wilson
Brilliant, just what I was looking for. Really like it. This book is not so much about grammar but more about everything else. The structure, the balance, speaking in the right tense and voice with lots of checklists to keep you on track. Brilliant, just what I was looking for.Amazon customer
A fabulous resource for all writers Every indie author - no, every author - should read this book, at a minimum. Even better, keep a copy on your desk and memorize the process of "Editing the RedPen Way." This is a gem of a book containing advice and instructions from an expert in her field. Trust the expert, trust her process... it makes perfect sense to self-edit harshly before submitting your work to a professional editor. Afabulous resource!

Great resource, LOVED it!El
A great tool in your publishing toolkit If you consider yourself an author then you need to read this book. The book is a great tool in your publishing toolkit. Easy read with a framework that is easy to follow to help you edit your own book. Editing is hard but Anne lays out a great approach to editing. I will use her tools for my next book.Amazon customer
Must read for every writer and language learner Great book.. Love the way the author has broken down the huge mountain of editing into bite-sized pieces that one can work on one at a time.. It demystifies the whole process and the simple explanations, examples and tips would also be useful for those learning English and want to write better.. It is definitely a valuable resource and a go-to bookfor any writer..

Not just a book about editing As a newbie (been working on first ever book) Anne Rainbow has become what her name implies...Pot of Gold at the End of the Rainbow. When I first got the book I thought this will be good when I finally do complete the manuscript. I came to a standstill point where nothing seemed to go right. Since Anne's (hope you don't mind my addressing you by first name) book was the latest addition to my kindle decide to read a little. Long story short the 'read a little' became 'read the entire book'. There are so many points that Anne denotes that as I read the book was noticing that many of the story structure concepts she presents are areas that I have struggled. I have read so many books and watched webinars on how to be an author that for me were waste of time (and money in some cases)then out comes Editing The Red Pen Way and cleared up a batch of problem areas in my writing. Needless to say in my highly untrained eye this book should be one that every writer fiction and non-fiction writer should have at hand at all times. Glad I have it as a kindle version because if it was a print book would not be long before the pages would be falling out and possible missing pages. Thanks Anne Rainbow (alias pot of gold at endof the Rainbow)

An easy and powerful self-editing strategy! This book is a God-send at the right time. I have finished the rough draft of my book and am just starting to edit it. The 10 steps of the RedPen editing cycle are extremely useful for editing any kind of writing. The first step of being completely objective about our work helps me put into perspective my role as an editor and not a creative writer. It allows me to edit without personal and emotional baggage. Every step has a useful YES/NO checklist which makes the whole self-editing process effortless. Also, I like the idea of highlighting golden lines from the text, and working on refining or even removing unessential writing. This helps clarify the message. While only two steps in the cycle requires a red pen, the other steps are absolutely necessary for good editing. It helps me visualize the texts and areas needing work. Rather than going through word for word, this process makes editing easier and more effective. Thank you Ms. Rainbow for sharing your technique with us! I highly recommend this book to anyone who ever needs to write, whether it's a student, an author, or an office worker writing a report. This book is proven to polish your writing into a shinning gem!Jen W Luoh

Useful from go to whoa ... I freelance as an editor myself so I wasn't sure what I would gain from reading Ms Rainbow's book. Answer - this book has something for everyone, from those who have no idea where to start, to those who think they know it all. The author has taken a tedious task and turned out a step by step approach that even a beginner can use to produce a polished manuscript. Great job and really easy to read and use as areference guide.

It has a great deal of emphasis on fiction stories - characterdevelopment
This book outlines a step by step process on how to edit your own literary project. The information about distancing is a key factor and a very helpful reminder. It has a great deal of emphasis on fiction stories - character development, hooking the reader, continuity between scenes, plot structure, and more. Editing requires an entirely different mindset than writing. Self editing is a great way to develop analytical skills. The checklists were especially helpful. It's a comprehensive book with many valuable strategies and processes to effectively edit the red pen way!reader007
Concise guide to getting your writing right A brilliant plot and engaging characters are not sufficient to make a manuscript publishable. Getting under the hood and making sure that the literary engine is finely tuned is what's needed to turn a working draft into a saleable product. This book provides the tools to do that job. Each of the 10 steps is clearly described in a succinct summary form. This book is written as an aide-mémoire to be used over and over again, with checklists and links to useful web resources.Samuel Robinson
Very helpful resource for writers When I first picked up this book, I thought it was going to be mainly about correcting spelling and grammatical mistakes. On reading, I discovered it was so much more. It encompasses, POV, tense and structure. I like to send as clean a manuscript as possible to my editor. I used to do this in a haphazard way, by reading my text over and over. No longer! I shall be editing the 'Red Pen Way' in future. I would recommend this to all writers who take pride in their work. I shall be referring to it often.Book Reviewer
Editing the RedPen Way is the way to go! This is a great book for first time authors as well as high school and college students. The author lays out her editing method which involves catching grammar and spelling mistakes but goes into so much more. She expands on the importance of when a writer should start the editing process and goes through a checklist of items that the author should be reviewing. I love her technique for capturing emotions and our "golden lines" as we edit our work.Katherine
Even Mr Haas would be proud of my RedPen Way Editing! It didn't turn me into Mr. Haas (my 9th grade grammar teacher), but it sure helped me to self-edit my own projects in a credible manner. I'm great at concepts, big-picture thinking, and organization. But the finer details tend to elude me. After reading the book and practicing the tenets expounded, I can read my own work in a less personal way and make a credible go at self-editing the "RedPen Way". I'll never be able to do or see the finest errors that a professional editor would catch - but at least I can limit the amount of time, iterations, and money that final editing will cost me thanks to Anne Rainbow and her book. If your grasp of grammar, tenses, and the rules of language is a skosh better than my own - this book is all you need to become your own self-editor! Maybe even Mr. Haas would be impressed by my overall writing and grammatical improvement now that I edit "the RedPen Way".Jim
This is a great resource for any author! Now I have a great tool for self-editing my own books -- before taking it to the next step. This is the kind of resource I need to give my book a good look-over -- both so I can be more confident of having avoided major mistakes and so I can benefit more from the professional editing stage (which will hopefully go more quickly when I put in the time to implement the lessons in this book). I would recommend this book to all authors interested in giving their newest book its best chance. It's a departure from my usual self-editing method, but it's one the author developed with the help of her years of editing experience. I'm glad she decided to put what she knows into a book we can all benefit from.S E Lentz
I recommend this book to all who utilize this program I rely upon Anne's blog to learn scrivener. I recommended this book to all who utilize this program.Donna D. Vaal
Editing the RedPen Way This is the most concisely written book about self-editing I've ever encountered. The steps are simple and easy to follow, getting you up and editing your work quickly and accurately. Now if only more of the self publishing authors would read this and start using the method, there would be fewer one star reviews bashing authors about spelling and grammatical errors. This book was well worth the price.Robert Romberger
After reading this, I know what I need to do to edit my novel.Brilliant!
This is the editing book I've been looking for. I'm absolutely dreading the thought of editing my sci-fi manuscript. I find a million ways to procrastinate. Rainbow has an easy-to-follow 10-step system. I love the part about getting distance. Other how to edit books can be overwhelming. The RedPen Way breaks it down. You can tell the author has a lot of experience as an editor who coaches writers. Great book.CK WindyCity

Practical and effective! I've completed my book draft but hesitant to send it out to an editor just yet. Then I came across this book! It provides a step by step approach to self editing to eliminate errors and critique my own writing, for a more cohesive and exciting piece. Every author needs to read and apply this!Tracy L.
Great editing checklist This is a great editing checklist for those who have finished their first manuscript. There are tips here that would also prove useful forwriting in general.

Clear Action Steps
Possibly the best and simplest book on how to edit your own novels I have read. There are many editing books out there which go through a whole list of steps on how to edit and I have read some of them but I have always had the impression they were written by people who had never edited a book in their lives. This book is short, simple and has clear action steps that look straightforward to follow and sound as though they are written by someone who knows what they are talking about. I recommend this book as a good guide to editing your own work and I will be using it when my next novel is ready.writer christopher

A life saver for a first time author! Her well written book took away all the fog I once had about editing and it's quite a life saver for me! A Masterclass in Self-Editing As an aspiring author I've read so many books on writing and editing that I didn't expect many revelations here. However, I am now well and truly a RedPen convert and was so impressed with this book I've signed up to the author's mailing list and the useful stuff just keeps on coming! The system is so sensible and useful that I wanted to get stuck in to all my working drafts immediately (and I never feel that way about editing). I think it's because this book trains your brain as well as your pen, explaining how to move from the author to the editor mindset and then walking you through what to do when you get there. It's the gift that keeps on giving. There are straightforward explanations of knotty grammar concepts and tips for using technology short cuts to speed up your editing. Beyond my fiction writing I had so many a-ha moments that I can apply to my writing in general, at work etc. that it makes this book incredibly good value for money. As I said in the title above, a masterclass.PsychTeach
5* review on Amazon for EDITING The RedPen Way: An Invaluable Guide to Writing and Self-Editing Who doesn't struggle with editing? Honestly, I had a hard time believing that I was not alone in my struggle! After reading this, I don't feel like such an incompetent writer. Obviously all writers struggle with editing. Although this manual relates more to fiction writers than non-fiction, the content can certainly be used by both groups. There are plenty of downloads that you can access to improve your writing skills and the author offers a free self-editing course. The author is also a scrivener expert ... This book is practical and invaluable for all writers. The content is ageless. ... My overall advice is that every writer should purchase a copy and keep it handy for both the writing and editing phases. I'm very thankful to have this book in my library. I'm sure I will be using it alot as a valuable resource aide. MJ Chivers Verified purchaser, Amazon 5* review on Amazon for EDITING The RedPen Way EDITING The RedPen Way is so much more than a book on editing. It is a well thought out book on writing.
