Whale Sharks – Giants of the deep Whale sharks have been in Hawaiian waters for as long as anyone here can remember. Despite its name and size, the whale shark is not a whale but classified in a family of its own “Rhincodontidae”. Its closest relatives are the leopard and nurse sharks. The world’s largest HAWAII PYGMY KILLER WHALES, PICTURES VIDEO FACTS; PYGMY There are probably 200 individuals in Hawaii’s waters. Hawaii’s group is the only known case of a pygmy killer whale population that remains isolated in one area and doesn’t venture out to the open ocean.
