"Whether in charcoal, graphite (pencil) or paint, drawing is my mindfulness and mediatation. It is also where I study form and expression. As a natural draughtsman, drawing always comes first, and I include some sketches here, both in pencil and in paint, that have completed been 'en plein air' - studied from life in the greatoutdoors!".

'Kintsugi' is the Japanese art of repairing broken ceramics with gold. These ideas morphed into an analogy for the healing connections between humans and animals, especially horses, and became the on-going Red Thread Series, which incorporates other sub-series: Spirit Quest and Spanish Stave, examples of which are shown on the page /painting -/horses

SIX YEARS AND COUNTING First published Wednesday 6th January 2021 2006 My sixth year of working as an artist started with me furiously painting for my Solo exhibition at Thirsk Racecourse following my 2005 stint there as Artist in Residence. I was also travelling to Lincoln to work with Ruddocks Printers on a Limited Edition Print combining five of my Racecourse paintings, each with a numeric title, each inspired by FOURTEEN - SHADES OF GREY, LIGHT AND COLOUR 2014 I started 2014 with an artistic challenge to myself - to just paint skies for a whole month. I have mentioned before that I set a challenge to improve an area of my work, and as an equine artist, I don’t just have to paint horses, but also landscape, skyscape, water etc for backgrounds and I paint people too. Many horse owners also own dogs and I am often commissioned to paint the canine as well as the equine (and other varieties of -ine)". Many people think that this is my horse, Atlas, but the model, Jester, belonged to Carly's mother and he was a small horse with a huge personality. Apart from his eye and attitude, this piece is noteworthy for me personally because of the paint handling. It was the first time I 'floated' colours TOTALLY 10 YEARS . . . REALLY? "Whether in charcoal, graphite (pencil) or paint, drawing is my mindfulness and mediatation. It is also where I study form and expression. As a natural draughtsman, drawing always comes first, and I include some sketches here, both in pencil and in paint, that have completed been 'en plein air' - studied from life in the greatoutdoors!".

Many horse owners also own dogs and I am often commissioned to paint the canine as well as the equine (and other varieties of -ine)". SIX YEARS AND COUNTING First published Wednesday 6th January 2021 2006 My sixth year of working as an artist started with me furiously painting for my Solo exhibition at Thirsk Racecourse following my 2005 stint there as Artist in Residence. I was also travelling to Lincoln to work with Ruddocks Printers on a Limited Edition Print combining five of my Racecourse paintings, each with a numeric title, each inspired by FOURTEEN - SHADES OF GREY, LIGHT AND COLOUR 2014 I started 2014 with an artistic challenge to myself - to just paint skies for a whole month. I have mentioned before that I set a challenge to improve an area of my work, and as an equine artist, I don’t just have to paint horses, but also landscape, skyscape, water etc for backgrounds and I paint people too. Not many other art genres require such a range of subjects. ‘Cobalt Greys TOTALLY 10 YEARS . . . REALLY?
