SUICIDE PREVENTION MODELS TO LESSEN HARMS AND REDUCE RISKS 2: Program Models; View more Suicide Prevention Models to Lessen Harms and Reduce Risks Programs that address specific methods of suicide can be impactful in rural communities, considering that rates of suicide by firearms and drug overdoses are higher in rural areas compared to urban areas.. Therefore, another approach to preventing rural suicide is to attempt to reduce the risk of RURAL PROJECT SUMMARY: DOMESTIC VIOLENCE ENHANCED HOME Need: To reduce violence against pregnant women and women with infants in rural Missouri. Intervention: A tool for existing home visiting programs, DOVE is a brochure-based and safety planning intervention for women experiencing interpersonal violence. Results: Women receiving the DOVE intervention saw a larger average decrease in number of violent incidents than women in the control RURAL PROJECT SUMMARY: TOGETHER WITH VETERANS RURAL Need: Suicide among veterans has been steadily increasing, and rural veterans have a 20% increased risk of death by suicide compared to urban veterans. Intervention: A program called Together With Veterans was formed to help rural communities address and prevent suicides among veterans. The initiative is veteran-led, collaborative, evidence-based, and community-centered. SCREENING TOOLS FOR SUICIDE PREVENTION Describes the capability of the PHQ-9 screening tool, and how to use it for diagnosing depression, and for treatment selection and monitoring. Gives a five-step process for clinicians for conducting and triaging a suicide assessment.
