Instead, we have focused on moving the program to a virtual platform, by recording recipes and educational sessions that can be used by anyone with internet access. Through our Retail Rescue program, the Food Bank works with local and national retailers to connect them with our member agencies and turn food that would otherwise be considered “food waste” into food donations. RI FOOD BANK-MCCOY FARM HARVESTS HOPE One Acre of Land Has a Tremendous Impact Each year, McCoy Community Farm in Warren produces thousands of pounds of fresh vegetables that are distributed to Rhode Islanders in need of food assistance. The farm is run entirely by a group of dedicated volunteers on land donated by its owners, doctors Charlie McCoy and Lory SCOT ANALYSIS PURPOSE M SCOT Analysis is a form of brainstorming, so it often works best in a small group where people have enough time to talk and can generate ideas from each other. RI FOOD BANK-HEALTHY HABITS NUTRITION EDUCATION Virtual Nutrition Education Since the outbreak of COVID-19, the Healthy Habits nutrition education team has stopped visiting member agencies with in-person cooking demonstrations and workshops. Instead, we have focused on moving the program to a virtual platform, by recording recipes and educational sessions that can be used by anyone with internet access. Long-term solutions to hunger Healthy Habits Nutrition Education Healthy Habits is a nutrition education program for clients of member agencies. The Food Bank offers six-week classes and one-time workshops featuring live cooking demonstrations and practical advice on how to stretch the household budget by preparing healthy foods at home using ingredients often found on foodCOMMUNITY RESOURCES
The Food Bank’s Community Resource Coordinator researches and compiles user-friendly and reliable community resource information for member agencies and their clientele. Covering a wide range of topics, these resources primarily address the basic needs services necessary to sustain and improve the quality of life for those individuals and families seeking food assistance. RI FOOD BANK-AGENCY RESOURCES Manuals & Tools for Member Agencies The resources listed here will help Food Bank member agencies to strengthen and sustain their program offerings. Many of these resources offer best practices and technical assistance from the Food Bank as well as agency peer-to-peer networking and expertise. RI FOOD BANK-RETAIL RESCUE: TURNING FOOD WASTE INTO FOOD Participating stores receive a poster informing their customers how many pounds of food have been “rescued.”. Through our Retail Rescue program, the Food Bank works with local and national retailers to connect them with our member agencies and turn food that would otherwise be considered “food waste” into food donations.
