The .458 Winchester Magnum was made to fit a standard length (i.e. 30-06 length) action and KEN OWEN "OWEN-REWA" 4 BORE DOUBLE RIFLE A 4 bore all the more so. This 4 bore double rifle was made by Ken Owen of Memphis, Tennessee and was inspired by the rifle Holland & Holland made for the Maharajah of Rewa. These very heavy rifles were not just made for Africa however, as is often assumed. One of the main markets for Britain’s best heavy caliber rifles was India. THE 6.5X57 MAUSER: A CARTRIDGE WORTH DISCOVERING RELOADING FOR THE 455 WEBLEY REVOLVERS The .45 Auto Rim has slightly larger case capacity than a .455 Webley so slightly more powder will be needed for any given pressure level. Below is a sample page of usable data taken from a Lyman Manual of 2002. An example of the sort of data that is usable for reloading an old revolver or automatic pistol. COLT BOA - REVIVALER The Colt Boa is often thought of as a special version of the Colt Python revolver but, in fact, the Boa was a cross between a Python and a Trooper Mk V. This means that the Boa features the improvements of the Colt Trooper Mk V, including the improved smoother trigger with its shorter lock-time. THE 7X66 SE VOM HOFE HIGH STANDARD SUPERMATIC PISTOLS The High Standard Supermatic pistols were amongst the best American made .22 rimfire as evidenced by the fact that they have been the only American made pistols to win gold medals in the Olympic Rapid Fire match, first in 1952 and again in 1960. My own experience with these was as a pistol club armorer Continue Reading MERWIN HULBERT REVOLVERS The design and quality of manufacture set the Merwin Hulbert apart. Although the design used a conventional fixed cylinder with side loading gate so the user needed to load cartridges one at a time, ejection of spent cartridges was a very different story. NEWTON RIFLE IN .256 NEWTON A Newton rifle in .256 Newton built on a Lee action. This would be one fast reloading high capacity gem of a rifle. (Picture courtesy iroquoisarmscollectors.org). PRE-64 WINCHESTER MODEL 70 IN .458 WINCHESTER MAGNUM The .458 Winchester Magnum was designed to deliver the same performance as the British .450 Nitro Express, which fired a 480 grain bullet at a muzzle velocity of 2,150 fps. The .458 Winchester magnum can accomplish this with ease, and delivered this performance in the affordable Model 70 magazine rifle. The .458 Winchester Magnum was made to fit a standard length (i.e. 30-06 length) action and KEN OWEN "OWEN-REWA" 4 BORE DOUBLE RIFLE A 4 bore all the more so. The safety catch on the Mauser 66 is mounted on the rear of the bolt assembly and blocks the firing pin in addition to locking the bolt closed. The safety is pulled back to engage; once engaged the bolt is locked shut and the rifle cannot fire. To disengage there is a tab button on the top of the safety button. Introduction The .416 Taylor is one of those cartridges that started out as a wildcat back in the golden era of wildcatting which lasted from the 1950’s up into the 1970’s. Created by American wildcatter Bob Chatfield-Taylor, it is simply the .458 Winchester Magnum necked down to .416″, or you can make cases by necking Continue Reading PRE-64 WINCHESTER MODEL 70 SERIAL NUMBERS 1 AND 2 It was back in 1937 when a man walked into a hardware store in Durango, Colorado and bought himself a Winchester Model 70 rifle in 30-06, although back then the barrel was marked "30GOV'T06". The fact that its serial number was a simple "1" was not something that the gentleman thought anything of. BROWNING MARAL STRAIGHT PULL RIFLE Browning has done something that was so obvious that it’s really quite remarkable that it hadn’t been done before. They took the action of the Browning BAR self-loading rifle and re-designed it as a straight pull bolt action repeating rifle. This has the advantage of creating a rifle that meets legal restrictions on self-loaders thatContinue Reading
HOLLAND & HOLLAND 500/465 NITRO EXPRESS DOUBLE RIFLE The rifle weight is perfect for the caliber at 10 lbs. 7.4 oz. The open sights at the rear on the quarter rib are a two-leaf rear sight graduated for 50 and 150 yards: whilst the front sight is a bead mounted on a matte raised ramp. A spare front sight is stored in a compartment under the pistol grip cap. Underside of the Holland &Holland 500/465.
THE 6.5X68 SCHULER
The rim also needs to be reduced to 0.511″. The case is then partially full length sized in a 6.5×68 die, but one must only resize enough to make the case a gentle crush fit in the chamber. This typically means partially full length resizing and trimming one case to just under 67.5mm length, and check it in the rifle. MAUSER M1996 STRAIGHT PULL RIFLE The Mauser M1996 straight pull rifle’s bolt sits at the front of the ejection port. Pulling the handle straight back and forward functions the action. (Picture courtesy Armslist). The Mauser M1996 was Mauser’s foray into the straight pull hunting rifle market but it was not able to compete with the Blaser and production ended someyears ago
