RACAL RA1772
Conclusions. For my money this set is the most desirable Racal for serious use. I love using all of my Racal collection but if I feel the need to listen to something and not have to worry about it being on frequency hours later this is the set I use.It can match the RA17 for strong signal handling ( I never have to use the "RF Tune"), it seems more sensitive above 25 MHz and the audio quality A LIST OF RACAL TYPE NUMBERS la 105: remote control unit: la 199: convertor, transmitter control: la 196: convertor, receiver control: la 287 : ta 184 switch unit: la 304: remote control console ta184 MODIFICATIONS FOR THE RA17 RECEIVER Racal’s modifications for the RA17 receiver. Below is a list of modifications as produced by Racal for the RA17 series of receivers. RA117 - RECELECTRONICS.CO.UK RA117. The RA117 was not a replacement for the RA17 but was produced alongside it.The reason for producing two similar receivers at the same time escapes me,other than the fact that the RA117's design made it more suitable for use with external control equipment .As the set has connectors favored by the Americans (SO239 & BNC) perhaps it was aimed for the North American market. The 117,whilstRA66 PANADAPTOR

The Racal MA985B is a Local Control Unit which enables Racal manpacks to be operated in transmit and receive mode up to 2 miles away using a 2 wire line (D10 cable) and a suitable remote unit, usually the MA986B. The 117,whilst RACAL TACTICAL EQUIPMENT. Here we have 100kcs sweep centered on 1.250 mhz . This image shows the full 1mhz sweep from 1-2mhz. There are three variants listed by Racal. RA66A for the RA17, RA66B for the RA17 and Mufax Recorder and RA66B-1 which was modified with all American valves , plugs and sockets. MA197 HF PROTECTION AND PRESELECTION UNIT Racal MA197 , MA197B,PRESELECTOR. MA197B. Well what can one say about the MA197B..? Imagine operating an RA17/RA117 full duplex with a 1kw transmitter on the same site, possibly with a common aerial.Yes even the bomb proof front end of these receivers would struggle a bit with this sort of setup.Enter the MA197B. MA1970 HF MULTICOUPLER AND PROTECTION UNIT MA1950 … MA1970. If like me,you have a number of HF radios and only room for one aerial then this is for you..! The MA1970 will feed up to 40 receivers (yes forty..!) from one aerial input. It will also protect them from RF inputs of up to 30volts R.M.S and static charges of up to 2KV.So if you use this along with an MA197B then your receiver front end should be pretty well protected from all but a near AVO CT160 VALVE TESTER Avo CT 160 Valve Tester. A valve tester is a very desirable piece of kit to have if you have a liking for radios that "glow in the dark".It is useful to be able to check a valves performance if you suspect a fault on a set and of course a periodic check can be made to see if your valves are still up to spec.RA66 PANADAPTOR

The MA168 Diversity switch is intended to provide diversity reception for receivers such as the RA17 and RA117. The unit is fed with the 100 khz I.F outputs from two receivers and it will then switch between the stronger of the two inputs.Switching time is around 10 microseconds.MARCON TF2008
Marconi TF2008. The TF2008 signal generator is probably not the best of units to use when working on the RA17 or RA117 as its output is a bit on the low side when aligning some of RACAL RA17L HF RECEIVER Racal RA17L HF receiver,Racal RA117 HF Receiver.
