RAYMOND KASELAU
Over the years I've worked in basements, storage areas under the stairs, the kitchen counter between meals, garages, rented studios. But this - I have basically three stations at my convenience. The 22ft work bench for building; the "hanging wall" for vertical painting and photographing along with fold out work tables; the 'ol drawing board RAYMOND KASELAU: A STATE OF THE STUDIO ADDRESS The State of the Studio Space is strong. As 2018 begins to near it's completion, I must say this is the most area and resources I have everhad in one space.
RAYMOND KASELAU: MASTERS OF SUMMER I was hesitant about making butterflies after the suggestion came my way, but after looking over photo references I really saw the amazing detail in their forms. RAYMOND KASELAU: FACE PANELS Sometime less is more. I'm doing a series of what I've doubted "panels". These utilize left-over forms from corrugated manufacturing after the die cut forms are released. RAYMOND KASELAU: FROM EAGLE TO THUNDERBIRD After over two years in progress I believe this birds journey is complete. The sculpture starting out as a bald eagle, however I focused primarily on the wings and claws for it's dimensionalelements.
RAYMOND KASELAU: LIVING WITH A GIRAFFE Living with a Giraffe. Not something you would expect to see in a living room - especially one with four young children. I'll have to see how they co-exist in the same small area. But, at 12:15 a.m. last night the final touches of paint went on the giraffe I have nicknamed "Nesse". This morning I gave her some black hair on her tail, too. RAYMOND KASELAU: MASK TWO COMPLETED Over the last few days I've added the painted touches to mask two. The photos below show the progression from the previous post from Feb. 1. First, I covered the paper mache structure with some leftover yellow interior house paint (with a little help from Corgan.) RAYMOND KASELAU: AUGUST 2010 I completed a mask this weekend based on the Greek myth of the Minotaur in the labyrinth. Spring boarding off the vertical shape of the previous masks, I wanted to make a more horizontal structure - so something with big horns was the answer. RAYMOND KASELAU: NOVEMBER TROPICS The colors of the toucan's beak have always fascinated me. To get the curved contour shape was surprisingly easy to achieve with single facecorrugated.
RAYMOND KASELAU: NEWSPAPER-SKIN GIRAFFE Friday night I worked from about 9 p.m. to 12 a.m., then again Saturday afternoon (with a little help from my 5-year-old) to complete the newspaper mache "skin" on the giraffe.RAYMOND KASELAU

RAYMOND KASELAU: CATALOGED CORRUGATED With over 50 sculptures completed I've needed to create a document to keep track of, as well as use to promote my work. Divided into "chapters" titled Animals, Panels, Masks, Whimsy, and States this catalog also lists the sizes and year each item was created. RAYMOND KASELAU: THE CORRUGATED LION Powerful, majestic, ancient - the lion has spoken many things to many cultures throughout history. His proud mane was and inspiration of texture that I wanted to explore through design. RAYMOND KASELAU: FACE PANELS Sometime less is more. I'm doing a series of what I've doubted "panels". For my wife and each of my first three kids I've created portraits (in pencil and most recently in Photoshop) combining three photos. RAYMOND KASELAU: THE RAGGEDYS IN PRISMACOLOR Last night I completed what I consider my best colored pencil illustration to date. For the subject matter I went to two characters from my childhood: Raggedy Ann & Andy - classic children's book characters that I haven't seen a new spin on, yet. RAYMOND KASELAU: MOON AND STAR This mask-turned wall hanging was started based the tale of the Man in the Moon. The moon was created from scrap corrugated and covered with paper mache and Celluclay. RAYMOND KASELAU: NEWSPAPER-SKIN GIRAFFE Friday night I worked from about 9 p.m. to 12 a.m., then again Saturday afternoon (with a little help from my 5-year-old) to complete the newspaper mache "skin" on the giraffe. RAYMOND KASELAU: DISTANCE BETWEEN 2ND PRINTING I enjoyed the assembling process (hand folding, stapling and cutting) of the first Distance Between and expect that 25 copies will not lastlong.
RAYMOND KASELAU: MAY 2012 The Chippewa County Economic Development Corporation recently asked me to design their annual report in the style of a classic comic book. This was a blast to work on and I had the opportunity to illustrate downtown Chippewa Falls with superhero's battling on Bridge Street! RAYMOND KASELAU: TREE FORT WATERPARK LOGO As part of a series of (fictional) theme park designs I'm working on, this one being drawn completely in Adobe Illustrator. What started as a simple logo design evolved into more of an illustration depicting the "flavor" of the imaginary park - a sort of Swiss Family Robinson tree house with a patchwork of rides, as if it was constructed completely by a club of neighborhood kids - ah to beRAYMOND KASELAU

The one that I did the fastest (in about 15 minutes) was a 4 foot square canvas with house paint, newspaper, oil paints and lost of thinner running down the face of thecanvas.

WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 29, 2017MASTERS OF SUMMER
I was hesitant about making butterflies after the suggestion came my way, but after looking over photo references I really saw the amazing detail in their forms. Starting with a photo reference, the first one turned out to be a female since it had thicker black lines on the wings and no black spots on the lower wings. Once I figured out how to make the wings hold the folded shape I wanted to hang on the wall, the pattern wasfun to replicate.
Once the first female was completed, the male was fairly easy to make with the modifications of the line thicknesses and spots in thepattern.
Time to make a few more with variations in size. Posted by Ray Kaselauat 9:47 AM

SUNDAY, JULY 10, 2016 FROM EAGLE TO THUNDERBIRD After over two years in progress I believe this birds journey is complete. The sculpture starting out as a bald eagle, however I focused primarily on the wings and claws for it's dimensional elements. Not satisfied with the final (flat-faced) design and the focus being primarily on the aggressive looking claws, I wanted to put an object in it's grasp. A dead fish seemed too depressing, arrows and olive branches where a bit too political for the time being. Finally, I remembered the Legend of the Thunderbird and did some research to familiarize myself with the description of it's powerful wings and lightning bolts in it's claws. A blue and white color scheme to represent the sky feels appropriate. Below are a few work in progress photos as well. Next up, there's an elephant on my table. Posted by Ray Kaselauat 7:04 PM

SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 5, 2015SOLAR LOTUS
This recent commission for a sun theme sculpture took on a dual meaning when the fire shapes reminded me of the lotus flower shape. The Lotus also represents enlightenment in Buddhism. Thank you to my friend Lisa for commissioning and inspiring this piece. Posted by Ray Kaselauat 8:37 AM

SUNDAY, JUNE 7, 2015THE EYES HAVE IT
Originally I had left the eyes of the King of Hearts sculpture blank in the style of graphic novel characters, but since giving him sighthe feels complete.

FRIDAY, MAY 29, 2015 COLOR COMBINATIONS ABOUND! Interior design magazines, landscape photos, or children's books - if I see a color combination that draws my eye I'll snap a photo. When it comes time to paint a sculpture I'll sometimes pull up a reference that has the mood or theme I want to reflect. Time to mix some paints! Posted by Ray Kaselauat 10:06 AM
