ON MODERN HORIZONS 2 PRICES Glancing at pre-order prices, Sig noticed Modern Horizons 2 is coming out of the gate on the expensive side. This week, he makes some comparisons to the first Modern Horizons to create his prognosis for prices for the set's singles. JUDGE PROMOS: JUDGE FOR YOURSELF. Judges are an important part of the infrastructure that keeps Magic thriving and well. With every store, event, FNM, or another tournament, there are bound to be rules issues, as Magic is a vastly complex game with cryptic and sometimes counter-intuitive rulings. You all are probably well aware of the distinct shout of “JUDGE!” in the middle of a tournament as a complex (or sometimes not FORGOTTEN REALMS: SPOILERS AND MORE! Forgotten Realms: Spoilers and More! Adventures in the Forgotten Realms, Magic ‘s 88th expansion, is scheduled to be released on July 23, 2021. This trend has inverted with Ikoria. According to Dawnglare, the EV of Ikoria is $68.64. Compare that to the EV of the other Standard-legal sets: Theros: Beyond Death: $74.33. Throne of Eldraine: $71.33. WHY PRICES MAY NOT BE DONE CLIMBING ABUGames has reacted by upping the store credit numbers they offer on such cards, though selling them anything for cash seems bad. Star City Games lags in some areas (they’re only paying $650 on Moat, for example) but they are ahead of the game in others! For starters, SCG pays an impressive $1750 for a near mint Library of Alexandria!Even their HP buy price of $1250 is attractively strong. IS TIME SPIRAL REMASTERED TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE? I spun the wheel a couple of hundred times, and it just seems too good to be true. The singles value at preorder is insane, with 11 non-foil cards worth more than $20 dollars, 6 of those being timeshifted, and 24 cards above $10, and 14 of those being timeshifted. Foil prices are even more insane, with prices ranging from $6 to over $300. COMMANDER STAPLES: TOP FIVE CARDS BY COLOR 2. Necropotence. This card breaks the “good in other formats, bad in Commander” rule. It is busted in all formats and becomes even more busted when you start with 40 life. Enough said. 1. Demonic Tutor. I’d probably put this in the top five Commander cards among any color. It’s that good. WHAT'S THE DEAL WITH ZENDIKAR RISING EXPEDITIONS? As always, I’m hot on picking up “bling” non-foil copies of cards for my speculating purposes, and I think the $11-$12 mark is a sweet price to be getting these at, especially if you’re trading up in your buylisting adventures. Twenty dollar foils are a little out of my range when it comes to speculating, but I still think that’s a INSIDER: SPOTTING FAKES There are many possible characteristics to look for when trying to spot counterfeits. The easiest are obvious miscolorations. For example: The card on the left is the fake, whereas the card on the right is real. Another print/ink issue to look for is the “dot pattern” on real Magic cards.QUIET SPECULATION
