2015 NAGASAWA OLD VINE ZINFANDEL, RUSSIAN RIVER VALLEY Robert Rue Vineyard – This Heritage Vineyard was planted in the 1880’s and is a typical Italian ‘field blend’ and has Petite Sirah, Carignan, Alicante Bouchet among other randomly planted among these head pruned Zinfandel vines. On St George rootstock, which is one of the only resistant to the Phylloxera bug that lives off vine roots, and the only reason why vines still survive. In 1960 Walter Byck proposed to his Dutch girlfriend Marijke Hoenselaars in a sculpture grove in the Netherlands. This was the beginning of a love affair between Marijke, Walter and art. THE PARADISE RIDGE FAMILY Taking advantage of the beautiful site in the hills on the edge of Santa Rosa, Marijke, Walter and their family opened Paradise Ridge Winery in 1994. Marijke was a natural leader and for 12 years she was CEO of the winery. Tragically Marijke was killed in a car accident in January 2006. Dry farming these vines for the past 24 years has pushed their root systems deep down into the well-drained alluvial soil looking for moisture, where the roots also feed on hidden trace elements that somehow magically transform themselves into something rather special PARADISE RIDGE WINERY CVV2. Of the 156 acres, only 15 have been planted to vines. PARADISE RIDGE WINERY This is a lovely & simple dessert. I was first introduced to this dish many years ago at the Horseman’s Restaurant in Karen, Kenya. They are small cones filled with brandied whipped cream.
