POST-POLIO SUPPORT GROUPS Post-Polio Support Groups. The goal of a support group is to empower its members with the tools necessary to make adjustments needed to continue a life of dignity and independence. Contrary to the image sometimes portrayed in the popular media, healthy support groups are not "pity-parties" and do not promote the idea that "misery lovescompany."

Therefore, polio survivors are no more likely to contract a coronavirus infection or develop serious illness from it than people who never had polio! Most polio survivors in the United States and Canada are over 60 years old which places us in the“higher risk
SUMMARY OF ANESTHESIA ISSUES FOR THE POST-POLIO PATIENT 1. Post-polio patients are nearly always very sensitive to sedative meds, and emergence can be prolonged. This is probably due to central neuronal changes, especially in the Reticular Activating System, from the original disease. 2. Non-depolarizing muscle relaxants cause a greater degree of block for a longer period of time in post-poliopatients.
ANESTHESIA - POST POLIO Anesthesia. PHI has published many articles over the years in the topic of anesthesia. Polio survivors might understandably be wary of receiving anesthesia. However, with the proper precautions and preparation, anesthesia can be safely administered to post-polio patients. The articles below can help you plan for surgery.
