One of the biggest economic drivers is the beautiful Angkor Wat complex just outside of Siem Reap, but the ripple effects of tourism are still not reaching some of the most vulnerable groups. DESTINATION PARTNERSHIPS The growing Global Community Tourism Network consists of 215+ community tourism enterprises representing 67 countries who are focused on improving their livelihoods and generating an economic ripple effect.The Network represents Planeterra’s efforts to make social enterprise development best practices and trainings available to communities worldwide. MALDIVES PLASTIC PROJECT Planeterra partnered with local travel company, Voyages, to integrate plastic pick-ups into all of G Adventures tours through the Maldives as of 2020. The aim is to mitigate tonnes of plastic from inhabited beaches and incorporate local communities in the mission to reduce plastic waste from reaching the ocean. Planeterra provided theequipment

The Parque de la Papa is an organization of five communities located in the highlands of the Sacred Valley in Cuzco, Perú. More than 7,000 Indigenous community members currently work together to preserve the area with hundreds of varieties of native potato (around 1,300) as well as the knowledge and ancient teaching related to the cultivation and management of their agricultural landscapeMOSHI MAMAS
Planeterra funded and supported businesses launched by graduates that serve the tourism industry, as the town of Moshi where the school is located is a popular destination for travellers hiking Mount Kilimanjaro. In the city of Rio de Janeiro, close to 3 million people – around 30% of the population – live in favelas (shanty-towns). There are over 1,000 of them ranging from newer or more challenged communities with slum-like conditions, to highly-functioning, vibrantneighbourhoods.

One of the biggest economic drivers is the beautiful Angkor Wat complex just outside of Siem Reap, but the ripple effects of tourism are still not reaching some of the most vulnerable groups. Planeterra funded and supported businesses launched by graduates that serve the tourism industry, as the town of Moshi where the school is located is a popular destination for travellers hiking Mount Kilimanjaro. Businesses supported include a handicraft maker’s studio and shop, called the Moshi Mamas Cooperative, as well as theLala Salama Spa.
MALDIVES PLASTIC PROJECT Planeterra partnered with local travel company, Voyages, to integrate plastic pick-ups into all of G Adventures tours through the Maldives as of 2020. The aim is to mitigate tonnes of plastic from inhabited beaches and incorporate local communities in the mission to reduce plastic waste from reaching the ocean. Planeterra provided theequipment

The Parque de la Papa is an organization of five communities located in the highlands of the Sacred Valley in Cuzco, Perú. More than 7,000 Indigenous community members currently work together to preserve the area with hundreds of varieties of native potato (around 1,300) as well as the knowledge and ancient teaching related to the cultivation and management of their agricultural landscapeMI CAFECITO
Mi Cafecito is a successful tourism and agriculture co-op which has created many employment opportunities for members of the community as well as connected local farmers and artisans with a market to sell their products, significantly improving the economic development ofthe community.
