Introduction. Sony A7s with Leica 90mm 2.0 Summicron M (pre Asph) and VM-E close focus adapter (Helicoid) The Leica Summicron-M 90mm 2.0 has been Leica’s top of the line M-mount portrait lens from 1980 to 1998. It is also one of the first lenses I reviewed for this blog, but I had to sell it to fund the Zeiss Loxia 85mm 2.4 back in the day. GUIDE TO CLASSIC OLYMPUS OM ZUIKO LENSES ON FILM AND SONY Yoshihisa Maitani’s Olympus OM system was a remarkable achievement, with beautifully engineered smaller bodies and exquisite small lenses, often as good or better than larger lenses from the competition. They are all nicely engineered and a joy to use. SONY FE LENSES: THE HONEST GUIDE FOR THE A7/A7II/A7III Recommendation: a really great lens which was unfortunately a little late to the party as many of us already bought lenses like the Zeiss Loxia 21mm 2.8 or Sony FE 24mm 1.4 GM before. TTArtisan 50mm 1.4 on Sony A7rII. To my surprise – shortly after the 50mm 0.95 – TTArtisan also released a more reasonable 50mm 1.4 lens. It first came out for M-mount, but I wouldn’t rule out the possibility of a version optimized for the Sony filter stack in the near future. REVIEW: VOIGTLANDER 75MM F1.5 NOKTON VM The Voigtlander VM 75mm 1.5 Nokton has not been optimized for shooting at the minimum focus distance and 1.0 m is not that far away from 0.7 m. At maximum aperture the lens is a bit soft, the more the further you are away from the center of the frame. Stopping down to f/2.0 and f/2.8 improves the performance noticeably. OLYMPUS E. ZUIKO 135MM F/3.5: A REVIEW For a vintage tele lens the Olympus E. Zuiko 135mm f/3.5 is a decent performer, especially at closer distances. Even when combined with the demanding 42mp sensor of the Sony A7RIII the lens delivers. The below average LaCA correction and the average corner sharpness near infinity spoil the game a bit when used for landscape photography. REVIEW: OLYMPUS F.ZUIKO AUTO-S 1.8/50 Sharpness near infinity. The Olympus F.Zuiko 1.8/50 is an interesting little lens. The Minolta MC 1.4/50 has a close focusing distance of 50cm which results in a reproduction ratio of about 1:8 which is a little below average for a 50mm lens. The Minolta does not feature floating elements so performance suffers quite a bit at shorter distances. LONG-TERM REVIEW: SONY FE 16-35MM F4 ZA OSS T Built Quality. This Sony FE 16-35mm f/4 ZA OSS T* is built well and feels quite solid. The outer barrel is made from metal, as is is the filter thread. The inner barrel is made from plastics and shows no play. This 11mm 4.5 FF-RL is in the one in the middle in terms of focal length and maximum aperture, but is it the goldilock’s lens in this set or should you rather stick to the record breaking 9mm lens or the low distortion 14mm lens? 135MM LEGACY SHOOT OUT: SMC PENTAX-M F/3.5 VS CANON NFD F The Canon newFD 135mm f/3.5 is the clear winner. REVIEW: TTARTISAN 11MM 2.8 FISHEYE Introduction TTArtisan 11mm 2.8 Fisheye on Sony A7rII. Fisheye lenses are not exactly hugely popular and the fact that we haven’t seen a fullframe fisheye lens designed for mirrorless yet – in more than 60 years of the Leica-M system we haven’t seen a single one – onlysupports this.
REVIEW: MS-OPTICS 24MM 2.0 APORIA Whenever some lens is advertised as “the smallest lens ever made” we usually get to deal with some junky fixed focus and fixed aperture pinhole lens. The MS-Optics 24mm 2.0 Aporia is a very different story though, only 45g and less than 6mm in length but with a maximum aperture of f/2.0, a real diaphragm and rangefinder coupled focusmechanism.

Sony A7s with Leica 90mm 2.0 Summicron M (pre Asph) and VM-E close focus adapter (Helicoid) The Leica Summicron-M 90mm 2.0 has been Leica’s top of the line M-mount portrait lens from 1980 to 1998. GUIDE TO MACRO LENSES FOR THE SONY A7 SERIES 1. Reproduction Ratio. The typical measure for how small the subects you can capture will be is the reproduction ratio. A macro-lens with a maximal reproduction ratio of 1:1 used on a Sony a7 series camera will allow you to fill the frame of an object which has the same size as the sensor which is about 36x24mm. But that has changed. The Loxia 21mmf2.8 and 35mmf2 that started new in 2015 for 1450 and 1150EUR, now used 600-700 and 400-500EUR. But also, if lenses have good/bad reviews the prices can plummet over the years. One example is the Sony 24-70f4 ZA that started new at 1200EUR in 2014 now used 300-400EUR. Reply. LEICA R MOUNT LENSES Leitz Tele-Elmarit-M 1:2.8/90. This is a very small lens with very good performance in the center and midframe from f/2.8 with a hint of purple fringing. The corners at f/2.8 are soft. At f/4 the center improves to excellent levels, the other regions don#t see much improvement. By f/11 the corners have reached a good level. REVIEW: TTARTISAN 11MM 2.8 FISHEYE vignetting. not good. filter stack induced field curvature. color cast in the corners. The TTArtisan 11mm 2.8 Fisheye is actually a well balanced lens: good sharpness, solid build quality, compact size, decently priced. The main problem here is, that it isn’t optimized for the Sony filter stack, which leads to a bit of field curvature. The Olympus OM 2.8/100 usually sells foraround $90 used

Wide open across the frame sharpness is very good already and stopped down to f/5.6 sharpness across the frame is simply excellent.
