In my attitude toward gays and lesbians, I should show love and grace, following how Jesus dealt with people, being loving and nonjudgmental. THE QUIRKY WISDOM OF T. S. That’s a great question, and there are entire books written in answer. It’s refreshing to me that you don’t focus on the distinctions. Basically, evangelicals take the Bible more seriously than some other shades of Christians, and tend to emphasize a personal conversion experience and the importance of spreading the message toothers.
MY UNTOLD STORY
Philip, A Companion in Crisis is wonderful. Donne’s spiritual and personal insights are profound — and so relevant to modern readers. I find myself astonished with Donne’s questions to God, such as, “shouldn’t air nourish us, not destroy us?” and his petitions, “I humbly beseech you to make this illness, which I accept as part of my daily bread, to taste so to me.” DISAPPOINTMENT WITH GOD After writing one of my first books, Where Is God When It Hurts, I got letters from readers who said something like this: “Thanks for your reflections on physical pain. My great pastor Jerry Giles at The Chapel a Crosspoint in Amherst, NY referenced your writing about your aquarium being like the universe. JESUS’ UNANSWERED PRAYERS Often I think my specific prayer is not answered because He wants me closer. I have a thorn in my flesh that I would like to be removed, to steal a 2 Corinthians 12 phrase from Paul, but I have found over the years that my trust and faith have grown as a result of His “no answer apparent” so perhaps the now answer is a better answer than any I could have imagined. The last weekend of February, 2007, I spoke at a historic church in Los Alamos, New Mexico. PRAYER - PHILIP YANCEYPHILIP YANCEY I like to pray with the image of a mountain stream. It starts high up, where I ask for a God’s-eye-view of the world, a kind of vision correction so that I begin to see the world more as God does.
