Penland School of Craft. is an international center for craft education dedicated to helping people live creative lives. Online Demo Cristina Córdova A Simplified Way to Make a Hollow Head. In this prerecorded video demonstration I’ll show how to make a small head using clay slabs and a simple pattern that will help generate the primary shape, which I’ll develop through furthermodeling.

Class topics include furniture design and construction, wood sculpture, joinery, boat building, wooden instruments, wood carving,and more.
CLAY – PENLAND SCHOOL OF CRAFT Clay Workshops at Penland. Penland School of Craft offers 1-, 2-, and 8-week clay workshops taught by visiting instructors in our well-equipped studios. Class topics include functional and decorative pottery, wheel throwing, handbuilding, clay sculpture, glazing, and salt-, soda-, and wood-firing. Workshops are open to serious studentsof all
HOUSING – PENLAND SCHOOL OF CRAFT Furnishing is basic: a bed and a place to put your clothes. Housing assignments are made shortly before the session begins. We do our best to match students with the type of housing they request, but this is not always possible, and we cannot honor requests for specific rooms or buildings. Note: we only house people enrolled in workshops. TEXTILES – PENLAND SCHOOL OF CRAFT Using a range of textile processes, we’ll translate words into physical forms, including appliqué, reverse-appliqué, trapunto, piecing, embroidery, and embellishment (with plenty of sequins). Students can expect to produce a set of process samples and one or more finished pieces byPAPER STUDIO
The Penland paper program offers beginning to advanced workshops in traditional and contemporary methods. The studio provides space and specialty equipment for the exploration of concept and technique in paper. The scope of each workshop is determined by the instructor with input from our program director and support from our programmingstaff.

The Penland Gallery and Visitors Center is one of the finest showcases for contemporary craft in the Southeast. Attracting thousands of visitors each year, the gallery exhibits and sells work by current and former Penland instructors, resident artists, and former students fromaround the country.
SHOP PENLAND GALLERY The Penland Gallery exhibits the work of artists affiliated with Penland School of Craft from across the country and beyond. These include current and former instructors, resident artists, and students working in contemporary craft media: books and paper, clay, drawing and painting, glass, iron, metals, photo, print and letterpress,textiles, and wood.
SUMMER OPEN WORKSHOPS Summer 2021 Workshop with Open Spaces. Enrollment is currently open for full-pay students on a first-come, first-served basis. As of July 9, the following workshops still had open spaces for full-paystudents.
