1840S - EDUCATION - PAUL REVERE WILLIAMS The United States experiences extraordinary growth in the 1840s acquiring the land that will include today's western states of New Mexico, Arizona, California, Nevada, Utah, Colorado and Texas. Technological advances including steamboats and railroads make it possible for Americans to travel from the East to the undeveloped, butpromising West.
PALEY RESIDENCE
The estate was sold for $475,000 and the surrounding acres developed. Unfortunately a subsequent Paley/Williams collaborative project was not as successful. Paley was a major stockholder in the extensive Paul R. Williams' renovation of the Arrowhead Springs Hotel. In 1914, Frank Flint commissioned and had built a personal residence in his favorite architectural style: a romanticized vision of a southern governor's mansion. After the Senator died suddenly at sea during a round-the-world cruise, his wife Katherine commissioned Paul Williams to design this smaller version of the original residence in1929.

The rustic cabin (1929-30) that Paul R. Williams designed for Chaney in the California High Sierras, now John Muir Wilderness, was built as a vacation home for the star. Built under a government “special use” permit, Chaney owned the cabin, but only leased the half-acreof land.

The famed Beverly Hills estate Cordhaven designed by Paul R. Williams was built in 1933 for Errett Lobban Cord (E. L. Cord). Cord had little formal education -- briefly enrolled at the Los Angeles Polytechnic High School (1907) and in a few evening business classes at theY.M.C.A.

In 1937 movie star Barbara Stanwyck hired an architect to design a large French and English Tudor inspired residence for her 11-acre ranch in Northridge, California. The completed two-story, hill top home with stone veneer, multiple gabled roofline, wooden shingles and 12 rooms was 6,400 square foot BALL-ARNAZ RESIDENCE The Ball Arnaz home is an excellent example of his uncanny ability to transform a client’s dreams into substance. In 2002 the Ball Arnaz house was extensively remodeled. The lot Desi won in the infamous poker game was sub-divided into smaller parcels and seven one-story houses were built near the residence Paul Williams built for thecouple.
