Visit. Pan's Garden. Established in 1994 by the Preservation Foundation of Palm Beach, Pan’s Garden takes its name from the bronze statue of Pan of Rohallion that graces the garden’s entrance pool. Designed by Frederick MacMonnies in 1890, the statue depicts Pan – the ancient god of shepherds who protects and guards the flocks– in
JOHN L. VOLK COLLECTION John L. Volk was born in Graz, Austria in 1901 and immigrated to New York City at the age of 9 with his parents. Volk studied architecture at Columbia University and apprenticed with H.P. Knowles, a Masonic architect in New York City. He relocated to Florida in 1925 during the real estate boom and opened his own practice in 1926 and architect LITTLE RED SCHOOLHOUSE History. Founded in 1886 as a community project, the Little Red Schoolhouse was the first schoolhouse in southeast Florida. Its first seven scholars were taught by Miss Hattie Gale, the 16-year old daughter of the Reverend Elbridge Gale, former Professor of Horticulture at Kansas State Agriculture College who came to the Lake Worth area Florida to be a minister and local botanist. BARBARA HOFFSTOT COLLECTION Barbara Drew Hoffstot was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in 1919, graduated from Rollins College in 1943, and was a winter resident of Palm Beach, Florida.
