Thanks to the influence of the dances she had inherited from her grandmother, a Yoruba priest, and to her studies of traditional African dances and Occidental dances (classic, modern) in Paris and New York, GRACE PERIOD. COMMUNITY RITUAL FOR COLLECTIVE HEALING Grace Period. A Community Ritual for Collective Healing is a community ritual taking place at select make/shift memorial sites across the city in the spirit of remembrance and resilience, hope and healing.. Full Circle. It was February 1995. I remember I wore a navy blue velvet blouse. I left my seat next to my mother to sit on the plush floor pillows for children that were placed upfront in the Painted Bride’s Art Center’s theater. The pillow was cozy and velvet likemy blouse.

TIM BERNE'S SNAKEOIL Tim Berne, Oscar Noriega, Matt Mitchell, and Ches Smith. Tim Berne has been described as “a saxophonist and composer of granite conviction” by The New York Times. His spirited band, Snakeoil, is a potent blend of new voices and new ideas. Incidentals, the band’s fourth album, featuring clarinetist Oscar Noriega, pianist Matt Mitchell and drummer/vibraphonist Ches Smith is augmented by GRACE PERIOD. Qawwali is a 700 year old genre of Pakistani music characterized by lively rhythmic cycles, gripping melodies and a rich mixture of poetry anddevotional texts.

CLOUDS IN THE KITCHEN Clouds in the Kitchen is a multi-narrative, multi-generational musical piece about the history of a home. Inspired by the history of the Painted Bride, this piece explores the intersections between the home in our bodies, home as the house we live in, and home as the planet we are on. Weaving narratives from multiple walks of life, from artists OLIVER LAKE'S BIG BAND Oliver Lake is an artist who needs no introduction. The trailblazing saxophonist and composer returns to the Bride’s stage with his big band, performing numbers from their latest critically acclaimed album Wheels, as well as a brand new composition entitled “The MaskSuite.”
TIM BERNE'S SNAKEOIL Tim Berne, Oscar Noriega, Matt Mitchell, and Ches Smith. Tim Berne has been described as “a saxophonist and composer of granite conviction” by The New York Times. His spirited band, Snakeoil, is a potent blend of new voices and new ideas. Incidentals, the band’s fourth album, featuring clarinetist Oscar Noriega, pianist Matt Mitchell and drummer/vibraphonist Ches Smith is augmented by GRACE PERIOD. COMMUNITY RITUAL FOR COLLECTIVE HEALING Grace Period. A Community Ritual for Collective Healing is a community ritual taking place at select make/shift memorial sites across the city in the spirit of remembrance and resilience, hope and healing.. Our first ritual/memorial will take place on Sunday, May 16th at Germantown Espresso (26 Maplewood Mall, Philadelphia, PA 19144).GERMAINE ACOGNY
