These plants grow in incredibly harsh conditions in the wild, often in fully exposed, stony sites with poor or skeletal soils. The plant retains only a single pair of leaves, often with just the upper surface protruding above the ground. Blue Cane Palm is one of the best palms for Brisbane. It's slowly becoming more well-known, especially as gardeners are becoming more aware of the problems involved with the more traditional species such as Golden Cane and Alexander Palms. They come from the Comores Islands near Madagascar, where they are almost extinct in the wild. LILLYPILLY 'BABY BOOMER' Synonyms: Dwarf Lillypilly. ‘Baby Boomer’ is a small, sturdy variety, ideal for border plantings, low hedges or as a foreground or mid-ground plant in a landscape. Growing to only 1.5m high, this variety is often planted in rows and trimmed to shape to form a short hedge. However, it can also be used less formally. LILLYPILLY 'STRAIGHT & NARROW' Straight and Narrow is a new-release variety (2017) that grows tall and skinny compared to other Lillypillies. This variety is considered a replacement for Syzigium ‘Pinnacle’, as it has the same size and growth habit but with resistance to the psyllid insects that cause blistering and deformation. It looks very similar to Pinnacle but TASSEL FERN (HUPERZIA SPP.) Tassel Ferns are a variable genus of epiphytic plant, related to ferns and clubmoss. The genus Huperzia is widespread, occurring from Tasmania to the Northern Territory, and overseas throughout Asia, India and North America.
