OPTOMETRY IN 2035. DOES IT EXIST? In 20 years, will optometry as we know it still exist? Eye health aside, any optometrist honest with herself will concede the primary purpose of an optometrist is to refract. I cannot, for the life of me, stop the lenses from "creaking" when the frame is flexed slightly! Actually the 11, 13 and 15 refer to corridor length rather than fitting height. The W is for wide. The W designs work best for higher add powers (+2.00 and up) which generally reduce the effective width of the reading area. PM me your email address and I can send you the information. NIKON I VERSUS OTHER PROGRESSIVE LENSES I have worn Essilor's Comfort progressives for a number of years. This year I thought I'd like to try a smaller frame and "short corridor" progressives were suggested. I should mention that I do a lot of computer work and do not like moving my head a lot to read either on screen or paper. My new RX read: OD sph: -8.50 cyl: +050 axis: 43 add: +255 OS sph: -8.50 cyl: +100 axis: 163 add:+225. VARIABLE CORRIDOR PROGRESSIVES For the Variable, the corridor length changes and the reading area remains fixed. On the Fixed it is the opposite, the corridor length remains the same, and the reading size changes. In your example above, it actually doesn't matter since there is a Fixed 18 corridor lens. Both will have a corridor length of 13mm with a reading corridor of5mm.
