BULKY ITEM PICKUP :: CITY & COUNTY OF HONOLULU, DEPARTMENT The City provides for free collection of bulky items, such as furniture, appliances, and mattresses. Most appliances are recycled. If your items are still in good, useable condition, contact organizations such as Goodwill and Salvation Army first. Your bulky items are collected in two different types of trucks. CALENDAR :: CITY & COUNTY OF HONOLULU, DEPARTMENT OF The next day for household hazardous waste drop-off is scheduled for Saturday, July 10. Call 768-3201 by Friday, July 2 to schedule an appointment (every other month), or email us. For more information about household hazardous waste, click here. Non-durable containers, such as plastic bags, may be used if they are able to contain the refuse securely at all times. In the automated WHAT TO RECYCLE / HOW TO DISPOSE OF... :: CITY & COUNTY OF In brief, the story of trash is that we can no longer toss it out into one container bound for the “dump." What a waste to bury it in a landfill, especially on an island where land is so limited. We need to SORT IT OUT into the blue, green and gray containers to enable the City to deliver different components of our trash to recycling and processing facilities that can utilize it to our benefit. Additional green carts can be issued based upon the square footage of your property. Additional blue carts based upon a description of the types and volumes of mixed recyclables. Expansions to the H-POWER waste-to-energy plant and increases in recycling will further decrease what goes to landfill. **PVT Landfill will cease accepting asbestos effective January 1,2021.

You can take HI-5 bottles to a redemption center to redeem deposits of $.05 per bottle. Most redemption centers also accept non-deposit bottles and jars. WAIMANALO GULCH LANDFILL ISSUES :: CITY & COUNTY OF The City’s Waimanalo Gulch Sanitary Landfill (WGSL) began accepting asbestos containing material (ACM) January 6, 2021 and will accept ACM on Wednesdays only going forward.
