TRANSFORMATIONAL POWER OF WINTER Of course winter’s transformational power isn’t limited to rural idylls. Wherever temperatures plummet and snowfalls, whether it’s a city centre, a suburb, an industrial park or housing estate, if you have the time and inclination (and are happy to put up with the odd funny look from the passers-by) there’s the opportunity to discoversomething new.

To me, the biggest challenge in photographing the intimate landscape is simply being able to recognise your subject. To do that requires two things: the ability to see, really see, and a willingness to happily embrace opportunism. I define “intimate landscape” very loosely. It’s not as big as the grand vista and it’s not so smallthat a
TITTERSTONE CLEE HILL Titterstone Clee Hill is an iconic and much-loved feature of South Shropshire, looming above the medieval market town of Ludlow. On most days I see it from the end of my road. It varies in colour, from Alizarin purple, to Prussian blue, through Viridian green or even soap powder white. Sometimes it wears a cloud hat. At others, it simplyvanishes.

Peter was born of Latvian parents in 1945 in a ‘displaced persons’ camp in Germany, migrated to Australia in 1950 and finally settled in Tasmania when he was five years old. 36 MEGAPIXELS VS 6X7 VELVIA If you were to work out the resolution on 6x7 film you would get the following. 90lpmm = 136mp. 100lpmm = 168mp. 120lpmm = 242mp. 140lpmm = 330mp. 210lpmm = 741mp!! Henning also tested the scanned results using an ICG 370HS and an Imacon X5 and found colour film to have up to 100lpmm and Adox CMS20 up to 130lpmm. I’ve avoided any heavily textured matt papers because I find too much texture distracting on smaller prints. This is a personal choice dependent on subject matter-. I’m comparing 6 different papers all from Fotospeed whose papers I recently switched to having AUSTRALIAN LANDSCAPE PHOTOGRAPHER Australian born Geoff Woods has managed to combine carpentry with surfing and from the age of 30, photography. Inspired by the work of Peter Dombrovskis, the two subsequently became good friends. After working extensively with large format cameras, Geoff now uses a Nikon D800E with Zeiss lenses.
