CHIPPEWA NATIONAL FOREST Joyce Estate is an Adirondack-style family lodge built in 1917 by David Joyce, heir to a lumber company estate. This 4,500 acre resort was built between 1917 and 1935 and at one time included forty buildings, golf course and a skeet/ trap house. MIDEWIN NATIONAL TALLGRASS PRAIRIE PLANT PROFILE: Grows 1-4 ½ ft. on smooth unbranched stems. Long narrow leaves with very fine white hairs bend to form a V-shape. Flat- topped flower clusters may have 30-40 flower heads. MIDEWIN NATIONAL TALLGRASS PRAIRIE PLANT PROFILE: Tall slender plant to 6 ft. tall. Creamy white ray-like flowers cluster at top with a light fragrance. Unbranched hairy stems contain a milky sap. MIDEWIN NATIONAL TALLGRASS PRAIRIE PLANT PROFILE: Grows 6-18 in, tall. Up to 20 flowers lay across stem top with yellow petals & golden centers. Slightly scented blooms. Slender stalks with 2 in. leaves that have sharply toothed edges.
