The From Stump to Ship project helped Sheldon and Weiss to envision Northeast Historic Film as a conduit between films and audiences, and since 1985 they have found ways to unite viewers and amateur and regional films. Unlike many archives across the country, Northeast Historic Film seems to be guided by a respect for both films andaudiences.

Description. Depicts the year-round activities of the Machias Lumber Company on the Machias River in Washington County, Maine. Includes scenes of winter logging in the forest with hand tools and horses, as well as the spring log drive, with loggers using peaveys to break up log jams on icy rivers as the logs are moved from the forest to themill.

SERVICES | NORTHEAST HISTORIC FILM Moving Image Transfers. Attempting to run old film or videotapes through a projector or VCR may result in irreparable damage to the images. To protect the originals, make showing them convenient, allow for easily making multiple copies, and to facilitate editing on your computer, we recommend that you transfer your films and videotapes to DVD, Blu-ray or digital files.STUDY CENTER
The Study Center at Northeast Historic Film houses over 3,000 reference videos transferred from archival items in the moving image collections, over 2,000 books, pamphlets, and manuals, and over 6,000 moving image periodicals. Adelaide Pearson Films Gandhi Adelaide Pearson traveled the world filming potters to inform her Maine pottery business. In India she met Mahatma Gandhi, in 1936 shooting what may be the first color footage of him. * Item record with video excerpt * Orphans Film Symposium Camp Chewonki Collection The Camp Chewonki Collection consists of two reels shot in the 1940s depicting daily summer camp activities at Camp Chewonki in Wiscasset, Maine. COVID-19
In an attempt to keep the public and our staff as safe as possible; the Alamo Theatre has closed until further notice. The archives will remain up and operating for now as our staff is small and social distancing is fairly easy and diligent hygiene practices have been put in place for shared spaces. We will not allow visitors or customers into the archives beyond the glass entry hall and you must have an appointment or be a courier to enter. We have an area set up for picking up and dropping off film and video. Disposable gloves, disinfecting wipes and hand sanitizer are there for all parties to use. We thank you for your patience. We value your efforts to respect this new protocol. We will be evolving our strategies as the virus spreads and updating you as best we can. Please...posted by Jane
