Artist Jean Shin will create a site-specific work around the fallen hemlock that will be on view on Olana's East Lawn from May 1 through October 31. This finished work will be part of Olana's larger 2021 collaborative THE HOUSE - OLANA NY STATE HISTORIC SITE The main house at Olana, sited impressively at the top of a long slope, is a unique mixture of Victorian architectural elements and Middle-Eastern decorative motifs. OLANA STATE HISTORIC SITE This ¼ mile-long walking tour focuses on the integration of landscape and architecture in the siting and design of Olana’s Main House. The route follows the historic carriage road entrance from the site of Frederic Church’s painting studio, past the Mingled Flower Garden, to culminate in the dramatic planned approach road with panoramic views of the Hudson River Valley and Catskill Mountains. "MEMENTO MORI MANDALAS" BY PORTIA MUNSON In her flower mandala series, Munson memorializes bird, animal, and insect life that has come into harsh contact with man, highlighting the shifting climate and the associated stresses that pollution and modern, industrialized life have on natural places and wildlife. This finished work will be part of Olana's larger 2021 collaborative exhibition, "Cross Pollination: Heade, Cole, Church, and OLANA STATE HISTORIC SITE Customer.
