PROGRAM OVERVIEW: COGNITIVE SCIENCES Cognitive science is a multidisciplinary field investigating cognition or thought. Cognitive scientists examine the structures and processes that underlie a creature’s ability to think and reason. Horace Pippin was a self-taught African American artist from West Chester, Pennsylvania. In 1917, at the age of twenty-nine, Pippin enlisted in the army, served in a black regiment, and was wounded in his right hand by a German sniper; he received the French Croix de Guerre and a Purple Heart retroactively in 1945. OFFICE OF FINANCIAL AID To ease the burden of the high cost of college, Oberlin will award a renewable $10,000 Oberlin Commitment Scholarship to all new students who apply and enroll in the College of Arts & Sciences and/or the Conservatory of Music for the first time in fall 2021. This commitment reflects Oberlin's historic, ongoing efforts to broaden educationalaccess.
OFFICE OF STUDY AWAY The Office of Study Away assists students in selecting appropriate study away programs, understanding the financial implications of studying away, and ensuring that credits earned away will transfer properly. Each year Oberlin Conservatory of Music live streams roughly 400 concerts from eight campus venues. These live streams showcase student ensembles and degree recitals, master classes and jazz clinics, as well as performances by select faculty and guest artists.
