At the northwest end of the parking area, you will see white blazes, marking the start and end of the Castle Loop. This trail will be your route for the entire hike. Turn left and head east, following the white blazes, then bear right onto a footpath parallel to a gravel road. After passing a small pond on the right, follow the white blazes as they briefly turn right onto the road (this ROCKWOOD HALL AT SLEEPY HOLLOW Rockwood Hall is the site of the former summer home of William Rockefeller (1841-1922), brother of John D. Rockefeller. In 1886, he purchased Rockwood, a 200-acre estate, and built Rockwood Hall, a mansion with 204 rooms. Frederick Law Olmsted designed the landscape, which includes many ornamental trees. Following Rockefeller's death in 1922, the estate was converted into a SHAWANGUNK RIDGE TRAIL (SRT) MAPS Shawangunk Ridge Trail (SRT) Maps provided by the Trail Conference These free maps of the Shawangunk Ridge Trail are provided by the New York-New Jersey Trail Conference. The blue-blazed Camp Smith Trail starts behind historic Bear Mountain Bridge toll house, 0.7 mile north of the entrance to Camp Smith on Bear Mountain Road, Route 6/202. At first, the trail parallels the road, climbing steadily. It drops steeply through a rock field and turns left before reaching a massive cliff. BLACK RIVER WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT AREA This 3,000-acre WMA encompasses river bottom, swampy woodland, freshwater marsh, fields and upland deciduous woods. Woods roads cross the mixed hardwood forest with a heavy understory and an occasional pine plantation. Some of the fields are filled with wildflowers and grasses, while others are still cultivated. The area is well known forbirding.
BREAKNECK RIDGE LOOP Directions to Trailhead : From the east end of the Bear Mountain Bridge, proceed north on N.Y. Route 9D for about 8.5 miles to the Village of Cold Spring. Continue ahead on Route 9D for another two miles past the intersection with N.Y. Route 301 in Cold Spring. Immediately after passing through a tunnel under Breakneck Ridge, park in a small parking area on the right (east) side of the road. HIKING WAWAYANDA STATE PARK Wawayanda State Park Wawayanda State Park embraces over 35,000 acres of forests and waters in the rough, hilly country of the New Jersey Highlands. The name, pronounced Wa-wa-yanda, is the phonetic rendition of the Lenape name, said to mean "winding, winding water," or "water on the mountain." Wawayanda Lake, one of the focal points of the park, is 1.5 miles long, has 5.5 miles of wooded MOUNTAIN LAKES PARK (NORTH SALEM, N.Y.) From the park office, proceed ahead on the paved road, passing a gate. As you head uphill, you’ll notice that the road is marked with orange blazes. You’ll pass the entrance to Camp Morty on the left and, as you approach the top of the hill, come to a gravel parking area on the right. The most direct route to the lake from the Reeves Meadow Visitor Center is the red-on-white-blazed Pine Meadow Trail. Trail Walker is the news journal of the New York-New Jersey Trail Conference. Trail Walker reports news about trails in our region and the people and agencies who build, maintain, and protect them. It also publishes trail-related event listings, including pages of hikes offered by our member organizations that are open to the public. Trail Walker is published quarterly (beginning in 2012) and HUGH FORCE CANAL PARK This hike follows a section of the Morris Canal, which connected the Hudson and Delaware Rivers via a route that traversed Morris County. When it was opened in 1831, the canal was considered an engineering marvel. It used 23 locks and 23 inclined planes to ascend from sea level to the 914-foot-high Lake Hopatcong and then descend to the Delaware River. DEER PARK POND LOOP
A map may be available at the kiosk in the parking area. The Jersey Off Road Bike Association has detailed maps on their website. This hike traverses the Allamuchy Natural Area of Allamuchy State Park, following old woods roads with gentle grades. The area was once part of a private game preserve on which deer were introduced (hence thename Deer Park).

BLACK RIVER WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT AREA This 3,000-acre WMA encompasses river bottom, swampy woodland, freshwater marsh, fields and upland deciduous woods. Woods roads cross the mixed hardwood forest with a heavy understory and an occasional pine plantation. Some of the fields are filled with wildflowers and grasses, while others are still cultivated. The area is well known forbirding.

Park Acreage: 178.00 acres. ROCKWOOD HALL AT SLEEPY HOLLOW Rockwood Hall is the site of the former summer home of William Rockefeller (1841-1922), brother of John D. Rockefeller. In 1886, he purchased Rockwood, a 200-acre estate, and built Rockwood Hall, a mansion with 204 rooms. Frederick Law Olmsted designed the landscape, which includes many ornamental trees. There are many reasons, but let my dear wife Dr. Katy Elwyn and myself, Georg Budenbender, just share a few important points. We have been hiking and enjoying the great out of doors for decades. Katy’s hiking goes back to her grandmother, who hiked or "tramped" as they called it in the early 1920s, up Breakneck Ridge. Pine Meadow Lake is popular spot for day hikes in Harriman State Park. It is easily accessible by car and public transportation. The most direct route to the lake from the Reeves Meadow Visitor Center is the red-on-white-blazed Pine Meadow Trail.CASTLE POINT TRAIL
At the northwest end of the parking area, you will see white blazes, marking the start and end of the Castle Loop. This trail will be your route for the entire hike. Turn left and head east, following the white blazes, then bear right onto a footpath parallel to a gravel road. CONTINENTAL SOLDIERS FIELD This park with recreational fields, grandstands and Lake Henry -- secluded at its western edge -- is owned by Mahwah Township. It is a beautiful, quiet place regularly frequented by waterfowl such as swans, geese, cormorants, and egrets. Ramapo Valley County Reservation and the Darlington Schoolhouse, headquarters for the Trail Conference, are nearby. Curently there is no off-street pathway STOKES STATE FOREST MAP Stokes State Forest Maps provided by the Trail Conference These free maps of Stokes State Forest are provided by the New York-New Jersey Trail Conference, as part of a collection of several maps created for New Jersey State Parks. The maps are adapted from Kittatinny Trails, a FLATBROOK-ROY WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT AREA Noted for its trout streams, the Flatbrook WMA contains 2,090 acres in two tracts. The Three Bridges area on Mountain Road within the Flatbrook-Roy Wildlife Management Area is closed to vehicular traffic indefiniately. The decision to close the road was made based on concerns form the Department of Transportation engineers regarding the structural integrity of the bridges. Hikers can stillPINE MEADOW LAKE
Pine Meadow Lake is popular spot for day hikes in Harriman State Park. It is easily accessible by car and public transportation. The most direct route to the lake from the Reeves Meadow Visitor Center is the red-on-white-blazed Pine Meadow Trail.CASTLE POINT TRAIL
At the northwest end of the parking area, you will see white blazes, marking the start and end of the Castle Loop. This trail will be your route for the entire hike. Turn left and head east, following the white blazes, then bear right onto a footpath parallel to a gravel road. Curently there is no off-street pathway POINT MOUNTAIN RESERVATION Point Mountain Reservation along the Musconetcong River offers a wide array of recreational opportunities. Point Mountain is the third highest peak in Hunterdon County. Point Mountain, at 935 feet above sea level is the third highest point in Hunterdon County. The name Point Mountain refers to the prominent crest that this propertydisplays.
DONOR SPOTLIGHT: WHY WE DONATE TO THE TRAIL CONFERENCE Why do we donate to the New York-New Jersey Trail Conference? There are many reasons, but let my dear wife Dr. Katy Elwyn and myself, Georg Budenbender, just share a few important points. We have been hiking and enjoying the great out of doors for decades. Katy’s hiking goes back to her grandmother, who hiked or "tramped" as they called it in the early 1920s, up Breakneck Ridge. My dadGRAHAM STATE FOREST
Pack it in, pack it out. Inspect your campsite and rest areas for trash or spilled foods. Pack out all trash, leftover food and litter. Deposit solid human waste in catholes dug 6 to 8 inches deep, at least 200 feet from water, camp and trails. Cover and disguise the catholewhen finished.

The maps are adapted from North Jersey Trails BLACK RIVER WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT AREA This 3,000-acre WMA encompasses river bottom, swampy woodland, freshwater marsh, fields and upland deciduous woods. Woods roads cross the mixed hardwood forest with a heavy understory and an occasional pine plantation. Some of the fields are filled with wildflowers and grasses, while others are still cultivated. The area is well known forbirding.

Hamburg Mountain (WMA) The Hamburg Mountain (WMA) with its 3,600 acres is for those hikers who enjoy the challenge of bushwhacking or following unmarked woods roads and want to be away from crowds.
