EDUCATORS FOR EQUITY NWEA receives hundreds of applications each year for the Educators for Equity grant. This makes the grant program very competitive. Out of the hundreds, the review committee funds five programs, each receiving up to $10,000 each. We advise applicants to review the application questions carefully, consider how your program fits the criteria, and LEARNING DURING COVID-19: INITIAL FINDINGS ON STUDENTS Using data from nearly 4.4 million students in grades 3-8 who took MAP Growth assessments in fall 2020, this research presents key findings and actionable takeaways from analyses of how school shutdowns impacted student academic achievement and growth at the start of the 2020-21 school year. THE IMPORTANCE OF STUDENT SELF-ASSESSMENT 3. Embrace the process. Figuring out the self-assessment strategies, processes, and tools that work best in partnership with your students is an ongoing expedition that requires time, patience, and a sense of humor. You’ll take steps forward, steps sideways, and HOW TO REACH OLDER STRUGGLING READERS To address this issue there are two areas of phonics-related instruction that can help older students: multisyllabic word reading and structural analysis. Education leaders, reading specialists, and upper elementary and middle school teachers need to apply strategies like these into reading interventions to better help older strugglingreaders.
