The film was commissioned by Leeds City Council and was released in October 2014. That year John McKnight published The Careless Society: Community and Its Counterfeits, a series of essays written during his 40 years of tireless work in the urban neighbourhoods of Canada and the UnitedStates.
EVALUATING ASSET BASED COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT (ABCD Wittgenstein once said that the world is the totality of facts, not of things. But I think the world is the totality of stories, not of things or facts. Whether that’s a fact or not, I don’t know. I do know there are two ways of knowing things; one is through studies, the other is through stories. TAKING A STRENGTHS-BASED APPROACH TO YOUNG PEOPLE: MOVING Taking a Strengths-based Approach to Young People: Moving from ‘at risk’ to ‘at promise’. Part 1 ASSET-BASED COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT & APPRECIATIVE INQUIRY I’ve often been asked ‘what’s the difference between Asset-Based Community Development and Appreciative Inquiry?’ Well needless to say there is a huge amount of overlap, and I think they compliment each other really well as tools of emancipation. PERSONAL KNOWING: I KNOW I NEED YOU AND THAT YOU NEED ME Personal knowing, understood this way, naturally orientates us towards the commons, where we choose to be accountable and committed to each other and the planet. Whether we carry a particular expert way of knowing, is secondary, the primary focus is on getting better at being human together, expert, collective and personal knowledge become the ABCD TRAINING AND RESOURCES Nurture Development offers ABCD training and resources.
