As St. Thomas Aquinas said, the truth of the Christian faith “exceeds not only human minds but also those of angels; we believe in them only because they are revealed by God” (De Rationibus Fidei).Oversimplification of the main doctrines of Christianity has resulted in many troublesome heresies, among which Islam may have earned the WHAT IS THE ANGLICAN PATRIMONY? At last summer’s presentation of Pope Benedict XVI’s apostolic constitution Anglicanorum Coetibus to the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops in Washington, D.C., one of the bishops asked, “Just what is the Anglican Patrimony?” It was not exactly clear to him to what the Holy Father was happily opening up the doors by allowing groups of Anglicans to enter into full communion THE HIDDEN HEROISM OF WITOLD URBANOWICZ Clara Sarrocco has been a longtime member and secretary of the New York C.S. Lewis Society. She has taught courses on C.S. Lewis at the Religious Study Centers of St. Joseph's Seminary (Dunwoodie) in Yonkers and Immaculate Conception Seminary of the Diocese of Brooklyn. NO CATHOLIC CHURCH, NO SCIENTIFIC METHOD The argument that the Church has a role to play in the continuing evolution of scientific endeavor is no doubt confusing to many people, believers and nonbelievers alike. WILL ORTHODOX CATHOLICS GO TO HELL? Sounds like it, given what Bishop Thomas Gumbleton says. He expounds on Luke 13:22-30 in the National Catholic Reporter (Sept. 17, 2004). This is where Jesus is asked, “Lord, will only a few people besaved?”

MASS IN THE VERNACULAR This new blog series addresses certain liturgical changes in the Latin Rite Mass, from the vantage point of a half century after Vatican II. These changes notably began with Mass in the vernacular languages rather than solely in Latin. I begin by observing that I know of two instances in history when people were overcome AN EXORCISM AVAILABLE TO EVERYONE An Exorcism Available to Everyone. The "most efficacious exorcism," asserts Fr. Fanzaga, "is mortification" -- the subduing of the lusts of the flesh through ascetic practices such as fasting.
