CUSTOMER APPLICATIONS The remarkable performance and versatility of the Polaris® optical measurement and Aurora® and 3D Guidance® electromagnetic tracking solutions have enabled real-time 3D tracking technology to be integrated into increasingly sophisticated applications and markets, including academic research, medical trainers, and medical device manufacturers. Here are some examples of how our OEM6DOF EXPLAINED
Aurora® sensors are defined as either 5DOF or 6DOF, and 3D Guidance® sensors as 6DOF, where degrees of freedom (DOF) describe the number of axes in which a rigid body (object) moves freely in 3D space.. Degrees of freedom are reported as translations and rotations. Translations (positions) on the X, Y and Z-axes correspond with the following motion: forward/back on the X-axis (surge); left PASSIVE MARKER SPHERES Passive marker spheres are a key component of the Polaris optical measurement solution: when attached to OEM surgical instruments, these navigation markers act as triangulation points for the instrument within the OR space.This is due to the passive marker sphere’s unique retro-reflective surface, which allows the Polaris optical tracker to ‘see’ it during tracking. 3D GUIDANCE TRAINING NEEDLE The 3D Guidance Training Needle is an 18-gauge, 110 mm length reusable titanium needle with a micro electromagnetic sensor embedded at its tip, which enables needle-tip tracking and deflection visualization from inside the phantom.
