The NCTJ has published a new report on diversity in journalism, examining the characteristics of journalists in the UK. The report, authored by research consultant Mark Spilsbury, was presented to employers today in a forum on equality, diversity and inclusion. DIPLOMA IN JOURNALISM RAISED TO LEVEL 5 QUALIFICATION Diploma in Journalism raised to level 5 qualification 24th September 2020. The NCTJ’s entry-level journalism qualification has been upgraded to level 5 to reflect changes in working practices and the cutting-edge multimedia skills expected as industry standard. Data journalism. This option builds on the introduction to the subject in the essential journalism module. It is about learning the knowledge and skills to operate as an audience-focused data journalist. It will provide knowledge of how to find data, analyse that data in the most efficient way to find great stories, how to visualise the VIDEOJOURNALISM FOR DIGITAL PLATFORMS Videojournalism for Digital Platforms. Estimated learning time: 70 hours. Fee: £156 (including VAT) Tutor support: one hour. Credits: 7. Videojournalism for digital platforms is one of the specialist options that makes up the Diploma in Journalism qualification and can be studied alongside, or following completion of the core skills. COMMUNITY NEWS PROJECT A partnership between Facebook, local news publishers and the NCTJ, the project is creating around 82 new community reporter roles in newsrooms around underserved areas in England, Scotland and Wales. LATEST SHORTHAND RESULTS Shorthand is a fundamental skill for all journalists and an accurate shorthand note is vital. Candidates aim to achieve 100 wpm to improve their employment prospects and to be eligible to sit the National Qualification in Journalism (NQJ). A pass list with the names of successful candidates is published within four weeks of each shorthandexam.
