As a fifth generation Czech American, my exposure to the customs of “the Old Country” had diminished over time. About 20 years ago, I reconnected with my grandmother’s cousin, Melvina Svec, one of the original founders of today’s National Czech & Slovak Museum & Library (NCSML). ALPHONSE MUCHA: INSPIRATIONS OF ART NOUVEAU Alphonse Mucha: Inspirations of Art Nouveau was divided into six sections and explored Mucha not just as the father of Art Nouveau, but also Mucha’s Moravian roots, his family, his photography and his devotion to the Slav people. The exhibit ENDED December 31, 2012. Alphonse Mucha (1860-1939) is best known for his illustrations andposter art

Revolution 1989 February 9 – Sept. 8: To mark the 30th anniversary of 1989’s Velvet Revolution in Czechoslovakia, the NCSML tells the story in an original exhibition that features film footage, eyewitness accounts VELVET REVOLUTION LECTURE November 2019 marks the 30th Anniversary of the Velvet Revolution beginning in Czechoslovakia and to commemorate this historic event, the NCSML is honored to welcome, Josef Jařab, PhD. Dr. Jařab, was the first rector of Palacký University, Olomouc, Czech Republic from 1989 to 1997. He has been a MEDIEVAL TO METAL: THE ART & EVOLUTION OF THE GUITAR The Medieval To Metal exhibition also includes life-size photorealistic illustrations of historically important guitar designs from noted artist Gerard Huerta, and 20 photographs of acclaimed musicians and their guitars from Neil Zlozower, one of the world’s premier concert photographers. Visitors will also be able to play anacoustic guitar

STROEMPLE In 1988, twenty years after Dale Chihuly was a Fulbright Fellow at the Venini glass factory, the artist returned to Venice. During this trip, he visited a palazzo that houses an extraordinary private collection of Venetian glass, mostly Art Deco-era examples blown for the Venini glass house, that exemplified the apogee of Venetian glass art.
