MYSWEETCHARITY’S THANKSGIVING WEEK MEA CULPA FOR MISLEADING THETRUTH
Nov 23, 2020 8:53 PM By Jeanne PrejeanLeave a Comment
MySweetCharity*
This post is a painful but sincere mea culpa. In the past months MySweetCharity has tried to keep the flames glowing for nonprofit activities. The hope was that it would stir folks into understanding the devastating situation that the North Texas charities were daily facing. In doing that photos were posted of events in which leaders, sponsors and committee members were wearing masks. It was only right since these people were setting an example for others to follow inbattling COVID-19.
Unfortunately, in the following days and weeks, social media, websites and other media outlets had photos from the same events showing the same people having a jolly good time sans masks and no distancing atall.
Over the days and weeks, it was upsetting to see that even gatherings promoting fundraising for health programs — health programs! — were Facebooking and Twittering images of maskless people looking like they were attending a family reunion. But these were different times and the excuses flourished from organizers and hosts/hostesses like bluebonnets in the spring — “You can’t get the virus in my backyard;” “We’ve all been friends and they wouldn’t give it to me;” “That virus doesn’t affect my kind of people.” MSC ignored the flagrant abuse of conditions and continued to cover the events with the best of intentions to still promote the fundraising efforts. In hindsight that was a basic compromise of the MSC mission to cover North Texas nonprofits with an _“_honest but friendly_“_ hand. The friendly part was there, but ignoring the actual truth was strictly unacceptable. The turning point? It was the realization that in the days and weeks ahead, North Texas, like New York City and El Paso, might soon have ICUs at capacity and refrigerated trucks hauling away the deceased. This past weekend as we scored 2,163 new COVID-19 cases and surpassed the earlier Thanksgiving Day predictions about hitting 2,000, emptying classrooms and filling hospital beds, MSC couldn’t continue as part of the charade. For this reason, MSC can no longer look the other way and be misleading. It would be tantamount to being part of a cover-up — when the cameras are on, let’s all be good, law-abiding members of the community; when the cameras are put away, it’s party hearty with nary a care if anyone has or gets the virus. Until the pandemic, MSC had always been forthright in honest reporting. Like many others, the MSC team had to adjust to the new dynamics of the time. Unfortunately, we stumbled … no, we failed … in our mission. Sure, we can say it was with the best of intentions, but it wasn’t for the best of what was true. We sincerely apologize for letting the MSC community down by not being “honest but friendly,” and we applaud those nonprofit/fundraising leaders who have led by example wearing masks, social distancing and demanding that others do the same. Moving forward, MSC will only cover in-person, nonprofit events with participants abiding by the rules of the day — masking up and social distancing. However, if it becomes obvious that the event wound up with masks doffed and cozying up the rule, an update will be made to the original post admitting that there was such a change. Regretfully, MSC accepts the fact that some organizers may want to back off on inviting MSC, or rescind their previous invites, to cover their events due to such a stand. That’s understandable. But in all good conscience, MSC had to make changes in the past week with the dramatic numbers of cases and deaths taking place because of questionable actions. MSC can no longer be a cover for activities that might spread the virus. We hope you will accept our apology and our promise to do better. 2020 CRYSTAL CHARITY BALL SILENT AUCTION ITEM #1: PINEHURST RESORT ANDCOUNTRY CLUB*

According to Dallas Chamber Symphony volunteer BARBARA VANCE, The Dallas Chamber Symphony requests support to continue itsTwist-on-Risk
educational programs for Dallas homeless and at-risk students, including those enrolled/incarcerated at the Dallas County JuvenileDepartment (DCJD)
.
Dallas Chamber Symphony* Through “Twist on Risk: Maturing Through Music,” ensembles of 3-8 DCS musicians visit DCJD campuses where they engage at-risk youth struggling with delinquency, recidivism, neglect, or lack of opportunity, through scripted performances of classical, world and jazz music. Concerts give youth ages 10-17 and their adult mentors/caregivers chances to discover and enjoy live music through interactive shows that explore concepts key to becoming resilient, productive community members, including emotions and self-expression, impulse control/personal management, collaboration/conflict resolution, and stress management/psychological toughness. These fun, supportive and educational concerts provide opportunities for participants to delve into conversations about family, feelings, social well-being, and career aspirations. Students are welcomed to join the music making, where they can improvise on drums or rap along with the ensemble in frequent “jam sessions”. As many as 6,643 youth enter the DCJD system annually, of which approximately 1,500 are eligible to participate in Twist programs. When fully funded, the DCS can reach all 1,500 through 22, 45-minute onsite concerts, each with an average audience size of 70 students. 75% of Twist-on-Risk kids are African American and 25% are Hispanic. For more information, please visit Twist-on-Risk. To make an
online donation, click here. Checks made payable to The Dallas Chamber Symphony should be sent to The Dallas Chamber Symphony, re: Twist on Risk, P.O. Box 795548, Dallas, TX 75379. Please help these amazing young people make manageable, but significant positive changes in thinking and behavior by using music to deter them from homelessness, school expulsion, drug/alcohol abuse or criminal behavior. But this year’s series is literally more important than ever as area nonprofits are dramatically in need of attention and support. Thanks to a generous, anonymous sponsor, the 2020 MySweetWishList series is absolutely free and kicking off on Monday, November 23, to rally the community. Some of the organizations will be familiar with new needs; others will be so new that you just might find an unexpected love connection. If you’re a North Texas 501 (c) 3 and want to get your message out, submit the following info/materials: * A first-person article in Word format describing the one wish the organization would love to have. Example: Let’s say your organization is having a raffle. Then the wish might be for folks to buy raffle tickets as gifts for friends. Or, perhaps a homeless organization wishes for the donation of blankets and coats. Here are some examples of past “wishes”.
* The author must be a nonprofit’s representative, preferably avolunteer
* A photo of the author with ID and/or organization’s logo in JPEGformat
* The nonprofit’s website * The contact information for readers to respond to * Only one wish per nonprofit. * When you submit the materials to Jeanne.Prejean@MySweetCharity.com, please put the “MYSWEETWISHLIST FOR ” (EXAMPLE: MYSWEETWISHLIST FOR WHITE ELEPHANT GIFT SOCIETY) IN THE SUBJECT LINE. If you don’t, the infamous MySweetCharity filters will probably send your submission into the great unknown. * We’ll need your submissions ASAP. It’ll be first come, first posted. The series is scheduled to end Tuesday, December 24. As the year is finally ending, the good news is that North Texas philanthropy is not suffering from fundraising fatigue. * Photo credit: Skeeter Hagler 2020 CRYSTAL CHARITY BALL RAFFLE ITEM #4: SUITE OF VINTAGE BLACK ONYXDIAMOND JEWELRY

The final 2020 Crystal Charity Ball raffle item is a gem of a deal. While it’s a girls-only goodie, it’s the perfect Christmas gift for a fella to give to the gal in your life. Well, it might not be so right for a grade-schooler muchkin. But it sure would make her mom or grandest mon downrightgiddy.
SUITE OF VINTAGE BLACK ONYX DIAMOND JEWELRY* (VALUE: $11,000) CONTRIBUTION TICKET**: $150 Suite of Vintage Black Onyx Diamond Jewelry**** Talk about sweet suite***! It’s a jewelry trio of black onyx, diamonds and 18K gold. In addition to a necklace that begs to highlight a fabulous low-cut gown, there’s a pair of perfectly marched earrings along with a ring that would look yummy on anyfinger.
And, of course, in keeping with Eiseman Jewels NorthPark ’s two-generation reputation for only carrying the superlative of jewels, these onyx are the highly touted blackest of black onyx looking spiffy with diamonds and set ingold.
If onyx is not in your collection of baubles, rethink that one. According to one source , the ultimate Egyptian diva Cleopatra “used to wear black onyx for its protective features. Eiseman Jewels NorthPark Center**** Sensing negative energy, the crystal would vibrate, alerting the queen of potential danger.” Nowadays, onyx “is thought to increase regeneration, happiness, intuition, instincts” … and, boy, could we use some of that now! If you want to regenerate and alert yourself to potential danger with vibrations, snap up your contribution ticket** now. * Compliments of: Eiseman Jewels NorthPark Center ** Available by calling CCB office (214.526.5868) or from a CCB member *** Restriction: May not be exchanged. **** Graphic/photo provided by Crystal Charity Ball JUST IN: THE LAURA BUSH FOUNDATION FOR AMERICA’S LIBRARIES AWARDS $500K FOR TORNADO-RAVAGED DISD SCHOOL LIBRARIES Nov 20, 2020 11:30 AM By Jeanne PrejeanLeave a Comment
