WHEN IS THE CHARTER SEASON IN GREECE? The main charter season in Greece is relatively long, spanning from April to September, with a peak in July and August. Notice the interesting months of March and October, which offer a nice combination of “water warm enough to swim” and out of season

prices.

The most popular type of charter is also the most tricky one – Summer charter in the Cyclades including Santorini. The main reason is the strong Meltemi wind, which makes it rather difficult for a peaceful (non sailing) cruising charter. In late 2019, the Meltemi was particularly strong and long, lasting all the way to October. It’s not impossible to go for a charter in the summer in Santorini, but it’s something you should be aware of. WHAT IS YACHT CHARTER/BOAT RENTAL IN GREECE Yacht charter and boat rental are synonyms of one another. The yacht charters start from Saturday and are usually rented for 6 nights/7days, therefore, most of the prices on this website are weekly. Another aspect of yacht charters in Greece is the currency. 2019/2020 YACHT CHARTER SEASON IN GREECE The most important development of the yacht charters in Greece is the focus on yacht charters at the expense of crew ships. From the summer of 2019, the Greek Government has limited the daily crew ship arrivals to 8,000 people/day in Santorini. This move is welcome by the yacht charter industry, as Santorini is one of the most attractive charter destinations in the Cyclades and Greece in general. At the same time, the Greek authorities are making it very difficult for yachts departing from Turkey to the Greek islands with guests, which has been somewhat tolerated in recent years. As of September 2019, the Greek authorities have made very strict rules not only for the actual charter (your charter yacht that has departed from a Turkish harbor for a commercial charter can be seized in a Greek port) but also for advertising Turkish boats for Greece. The third, perhaps most important of all, is the continued flow of the EU structural funds into the yacht charter industry. EU now provides a hefty percentage of the cost of a new boat and the owners/central agents are using this to the fullest. Most new yachts arriving are catamarans, which allows us to offer you a number of newly arrived

crewed catamarans.

Also, new online companies are popping up, providing yacht charter services with the help of tens of thousands of Euro from the EU. Our advice is to stick with an established company, as a failure of the startup you choose can negatively affect your charter (with the worst-case scenario of losing your money). We have seen some of these companies spend up to €80/click, so apparently they have limited understanding of the industry and we’re forecasting some clearing up among the newly arrived tech companies. Especially if your charter is a few months ahead, use caution.
