CONSENSUS MAPPING
The consensus mapping technique (Hart et al., 1985) helps a facilitator and group reach consensus about how best to arrange a network of up to maybe 20 – 30 activities that have to be sequenced over time into a useable plan of action (e.g. outlining a 10-year network of sequentially linked activities to deal with a complex environmental pollution issue). Six Thinking Hats. Early in the 1980s Dr. Edward de Bono invented the Six Thinking Hats method. The method is a framework for thinking and can incorporate lateral thinking. Valuable judgmental thinking has its place in the system but is not allowed to dominate as in normal thinking. Dr. de Bono organized a network of authorized trainers to A PUZZLE BY LEWIS CARROLL A Puzzle by Lewis Carroll. About it there were many locks. So gave it back to John again. What kind of box, then, could it be? His brother John gave him a blow on the head. Doubled his fists, and gave him another. The lids are the eyelids, the locks are the hair. CRAWFORD SLIP WRITING Crawford developed the Crawford slip writing method in the USA in the 1920’s, for use in gathering ideas from large groups (even up to 5000 people, though it's much easier to handle with, say, 50 – 200). SLICE AND DICE
Slice and Dice is an Attribute Listing technique by Michael Michalko and is defined in detail in his book Thinkertoys . The process is. State the problem. Analyse the problem and list as many attributes as you can. Take each attribute at a time and try thinking of ways to change or improve it. Strive to make your thinking more fluent &flexible.
INTERPRETIVE STRUCTURAL MODELING Interpretive structural modeling (ISM) (Warfield, 1982), is an adaptation of Paired Comparison, usually computer aided and capable of managing group input. In theory each group member should be able to obtain every possible pair of items, and asked to state, which isCHERRY SPLIT

CREATIVITY, INNOVATION, TOOLS, TECHNIQUES, BOOKS, DISCUSSIONS, PUZZLES, BRAIN TEASERS, TRAINING ... Mycoted is a company dedicated to improving Creativity and Innovation for solving problems worldwide, with that in mind, we provide a central repository for Creativity and Innovation on the Internet as a summary of tools, techniques, mind exercises, puzzles, book reviews etc, that is open to all - and can be written by all. CURRENT FEATURED ARTICLESYNECTICS
Synectics is, in our experience, one of the most useful systems for creative problem solving. It is based on a simple concept for problem solving and creative thinking - you need to generate ideas, and you need to evaluate ideas. Whilst this may be stating the obvious the methods used to perform these two tasks are extremelypowerful.
Keys to a successful outcome are; * Pre-planning ( check that the problem owner has the desire and authority to solve the problem, and also that they are solving theright problem)
* Use a facilitator to control the process, and ensure that the correct language is used ( 'I wish' to enable more diverse thinking). * separate out the divergent and convergent phases of problem solving ( don't try and assess ideas during during the 'brainstorming / idea generation phase ) Have a look at the synectics pages for more information.BOOK OF THE MONTH
Instant Creativity is one of the _Instant Series_ of books by Brian Clegg . As with several of the other books in the series it's coauthored by Paul Birch. This book
is a wonderful goldmine of different creativity techniques / excercises. It is not an academic book, but a practical guide that makes you feel you have instantly delved into the years of experience of the authors. Talking Pictures is an example of one of the techniques from the book. The book offers over 70 simple, proven techniques that will help you to find fresh ideas and solutions, whether you are stuck in the early stages of idea generation or faced with too many ideas and need to refine and filterthem.
Another great part of the book, is the _"Selector"_ which has the techniques ranked in many different ways; * How long they take * How much Expertise / training you need * Stage (e.g. Idea Generation) * How much fun they are. Overall, it's an easy-to-use emergency kit, for whenever you need to make the most of your, or a groups, creativity. Also available online as an ebook - just follow the link to InstantCreativity
