Bagan Archaeological Zone in Myanmar is one of Asia’s most impressive historical sites covering an area of 104 square kilometres and featuring over 2,200 stupa and temples. Entry to Bagan Archaeological Zone costs 25,000 MMK and is valid for 3 days. ANANDA TEMPLE, BAGAN Ananda Temple is a distinctive cruciform shaped building with a 51 metre high central spire, constructed in 1105 under the patronage of Pagan King Kyansittha. King Kyansittha was notable for expanding the power and status of the Pagan Empire, and well as building a series ofimpressive temples.

Old Bagan’s archaeological zone is massive, you need some kind of transport both to get there from the bus station, the train station or the airport, as well as transport to get around the site itself. KAUNGHMUDAW PAGODA, SAGAING Kaunghmudaw Pagoda is a 17th Century Buddhist religious site located in Sagaing, near Mandalay in Myanmar. SHWE BA TAUNG, MONYWA Shwe Ba Taung near Mandalay. One of the striking features of Shwe Ba Taung is how much work has gone into creating this temple complex. The whole site has been created by digging down 5 to 10 metres into a huge slab of sandstone to create roads, paths and staircases, and then more carving horizontally to created rooms in the rock with elaboratefacades.
INLE LAKE | MYANMAR TRAINS Inle Lake has some unique geographical features that create a special environment and support an abundance of aquatic creatures and plants. Firstly, Inle Lake is very large covering an area of around 44 square kilometres. Secondly, this fresh water lake is very shallow, with an average depth of between 2 and 4 metres depending on the season and MOGOK AND THE VALLEY OF THE RUBIES View across Mogok. Gem mining is believed to have started in Mogok in the 6th Century. Over time the area’s rich mineral deposits came to the attention of domestic and international warlords, governments and pretty much every one in the region with the means to try to take a share of that wealth, hence the long standing nervousness of the Mynamar authorities to let outsiders visit.
