This book is a must for any serious student of current affairs, but also offers an informative and enlightening journey from the foundations of monotheism in ancient Egypt to modern history. The book ends with source notes, selected bibliography and an

index.

STUNNING CEILINGS FROM THE WONDERS OF ISLAMIC ARCHITECTURE The Selimiye Mosque is an Ottoman imperial mosque, which is located in the city of Edirne, Turkey. The mosque was commissioned by Sultan Selim II and was built by architect Mimar Sinan between 1569 and 1575. The interior of the mosque received great recognitions from its clean, spare lines in the structure itself. OPHTHALMOLOGISTS OF THE MEDIEVAL ISLAMIC WORLD The main purpose of this monograph is to review some of the contributions made by ophthalmologists from Muslim civilisation between the 9th century CE (early 3rd century AH) and the late 14th century CE (middle 7th century AH). The work is based upon my personal effort to collect microfilms and photocopies of Arabic manuscripts from public libraries in Syria, Egypt, Turkey, Tunisia, Saudi MUSLIM HERITAGE INTERVIEWS During the spring of 2007, Kaleem Hussain hosted a radio show titled the Muslim Heritage Radio Show at Unity FM Radio in Birmingham. The radio show coincided with the 1001 Inventions Exhibition that took place in Birmingham. As a part of the Muslim Heritage Radio Show, a set of interviews were recorded and broadcasted. The interviewed were scholars working in various fields of ABBASID COINS (750-1258CE) It is likely that the earliest Abbasid gold dinars, minted in 750 and extremely rare, were struck either in Damascus before the Umayyad mint was closed down, or in Kufa, the first Abbasid capital (figure 4). When Caliph al-Mansur built Baghdad (762), the gold mint was moved to the new capital, and it was in this period that names of persons

IBN TULUN MOSQUE

Ibn Tulun Mosque is a rare example where Europeans openly admitted its influence on the development of many features of their architecture. Elements such as the pointed arch, the pier, and wall battlements formed the essential ingredients of the birth of QURANIC VERSES ON SCIENCE Whilst scientific truths are very regularly questioned and abandoned, the truths in the Quran are permanent and unchangeable. “Read: In the name of your Lord Who creates, creates man from a clot. Read: And your Lord is the Most Bounteous, Who teaches by the use of the pen, teaches man that which he knew not.”. Quran 96:105. OBSERVATORIES IN ISLAM The observatory as an organised and state sponsored activity began with in the Islamic world. Much progress was made in this area, particularly in eastern parts of the Islamic world. This article was first published in the International symposium on the Observatories in Islam 19-23 September 1977 (ed. M. Dizer), Istanbul 1980, pp.. 21-32.

ISLAMIC COINS

The present coin is a very rare survivor from this first year in which a ‘purely Islamic’ coinage was struck. Of striking and beautiful simplicity, and obviously and uncompromisingly Islamic, it was to become the basis of a stable gold coinage whose weight and fineness was carefully maintained in accordance with Qur’anic precepts. The work is based upon my personal effort to collect microfilms and photocopies of Arabic manuscripts from public libraries in Syria, Egypt, Turkey, Tunisia, Saudi INTRODUCTION TO THE HISTORY OF MEDIEVAL ISLAMIC MEDICINE The medical scholars during the medieval Islamic era placed great emphasis on the value of dissection and the knowledge of anatomy for the diagnosis of affected organs, the relationships of the organs to one another and the application of adequate medical and surgical

treatment

BAGHDAD IN 900AD, THE GOLDEN AGE OF ISLAM It was a perfectly round city, with all the important buildings in the centre. Situated between two rivers, it was also at the centre of the world’s great trade routes and the caliph was therefore extremely wealthy. We learn about how knowledge and learning was key to the success of the Golden Age of Islam. This clip is from the BBC series OBSERVATORIES IN ISLAM The observatory as an organised and state sponsored activity began with in the Islamic world. Much progress was made in this area, particularly in eastern parts of the Islamic world. This article was first published in the International symposium on the Observatories in Islam 19-23 September 1977 (ed. M. Dizer), Istanbul 1980, pp.. 21-32. THE TRAVELS OF IBN FADLAN In his Rihla (travel narrative), Ibn Fadlan, who in the tenth century, accompanied a mission from the Caliph al-Muktadir to the Volga Bulgars, describes his experiences and the people and places he visited; the Khazzars, and the manners and customs of the Rus.. His particular role on that journey was to read out the letter from the Caliph to the king, to present him with gifts. ARABIC ROOTS OF THE SCIENTIFIC REVOLUTION It is well known nowadays that modern Scientific Revolution benefited indirectly from the theories, results and inventions transmitted from the Arabic/Islamic scientific tradition during the Renaissance. The new element introduced by Dr Rim Turkmani who worked for many years on the original archives is that knowledge transfer didn't stop at the Renaissance. In the following original and AL-JAZARI: THE MECHANICAL GENIUS The following short survey presents a rapid overview on the life, work and achievements of Al-Jazari, the most famous mechanical engineer of his time, some 1000 years ago. Al-Jazari brought Islamic technology to a culminant point. The author provides also web links and data related to the work achieved by himself and FSTC on Islamic technology, in general, and on Al-Jazari's ground breaking DENTAL CARE IN ISLAMIC MEDICAL SCIENCE: MUHAMMAD AL Among the corpus of Islamic medical texts there are few which specially connect medicine and religious law (fiqh). These are the forms of treatment mentioned in basic Islamic texts of
