BUILDING HISTORY
The second and last phase of the works for the consolidation of the building as the venue for the Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya were started, for the definitive installation, in 2004, of all its art collections. ANTONI CAMPAÑÀ The Endless War will reveal the different facets of the work of the photographer Antoni Campañà (Arbúcies, 1906 – Sant Cugat del Vallès, 1989), focusing on the photographs that he took during the Spanish Civil War, which his family found by chance in 2018. Pablo Picasso visited this Museum in September 1934, shortly before it was officially opened as the Museu d’Art de Catalunya, and he was captivated by the Romanesque Art collection. His impressions were relayed in a report published in the newspaper La Publicitat: “ agreed without hesitation that our Romanesque museum will be something unique in the world, an MEDIEVAL ROMANESQUE ART The collection of Romanesque art, 11th to 13th centuries, is made up of an exceptional set of mural paintings and a rich collection of panel paintings, the biggest and oldest in Europe. The outstanding metalwork is noteworthy, as well as the sculptures in wood and stone, in which it is worth highlighting the descent from the cross and themajesty pieces.
CLEMENTINE-HÉLÈNE DUFAU Clementine-Hélène Dufau. Print. Like many artists, Dufau (1869 – 1937) was a child with a fragile health who spent long periods in bed and very soon showed aptitudes for drawing. She moved with her family to Paris because she wanted to do artistic studies. She had as her teachers illustrious artists such as William Bouguereau and in 1895 VIRGIN AND CHILD WITH SAINT ELIZABETH AND THE YOUNG SAINT Print. Description: The scene depicts the meeting of the Holy Family, the Virgin and Child, with their relatives, Saint Elizabeth and the Infant Saint John. This apocryphal subject has its origin in the text 'Meditationes vitae Christi' by the Pseudo-Bonaventure. It is a genre scene or domestic scene which allowed the inclusion of a naked child THE ILL-MATCHED COUPLE Print. Description: The picture shows a young girl robbing a foolish old man who is blissfully unaware of anything other than her charms. She has a smile of satisfaction on her face as she slips her hand into the lecher's purse. The subject of couples of different ages has a long tradition and was a favourite theme during the LutheranReformation.

SCREENING OF "JOSEP", AURÉLIEN FROMENT, 2020 Thursday 21 October 2021, we invite you to the screening of the film Josep, Aurélien Froment “Aurel”, 2020, in the framework of the 7th Art. Cinema at the Museum». Josep is an animated film that tells the true story of the graphic artist Josep Bartolí and his time as a republican refugee in one of the concentration camps that the French government improvised. MEDIEVAL ROMANESQUE ART The collection of Romanesque art, 11th to 13th centuries, is made up of an exceptional set of mural paintings and a rich collection of panel paintings, the biggest and oldest in Europe. The outstanding metalwork is noteworthy, as well as the sculptures in wood and stone, in which it is worth highlighting the descent from the cross and themajesty pieces.

HAMADA The Colours of Fire: Hamada and Artigas will present a dialogue between the work of two of the great ceramicists of the 20 th century: Josep Llorens Artigas (1892-1980) and Hamada Shoji (1894-1978), a National Living Treasure of Japan. Through the two ceramicists’ relationship and mutual admiration, the show will allow us to learn more about the discovery and the impact of Japanese ceramicsROMANESQUE PICASSO
Pablo Picasso visited this Museum in September 1934, shortly before it was officially opened as the Museu d’Art de Catalunya, and he was captivated by the Romanesque Art collection. PHOTOGRAPHS 1927-1938 Marianne Breslauer (Berlin, 1909 –Zurich, 2001) belonged to a generation of women photographers who managed to take advantage of the freedom afforded them by the Weimar Republic. Her work is a notable example of the ‘new photography’ and can be found today in important collections.For the first time, we have the chance to see her work in our country, including most of the photographs she VIRGIN AND CHILD WITH SAINT ELIZABETH AND THE YOUNG SAINT The scene depicts the meeting of the Holy Family, the Virgin and Child, with their relatives, Saint Elizabeth and the Infant Saint John.
