This classic climb to the rim of Mount St. Helens offers an amazing opportunity to reach the top of the Pacific Northwest’s most spectacular volcano and learn about the area’s natural and cultural history in the comfort of a guided group. Designed for first-time climbers or those wishing to learn from our experienced and knowledgeable mountain guides, the Summit Climb provides an CURRENT CONDITIONS AT MOUNT ST. HELENS Woods to tree line snow begins 250 feet from the trailhead and is becoming very slushy, with less than a foot for the first quarter mile. The last unskiable snow-free spot is 3/4 mile up from the trailhead (1/4 mile above the quarry). Snow gradually deepens to 3-5 feet by Chocolate falls. The boulders below Chocolate Falls are stillsnow

Participants in this program will explore diverse aspects of the natural and cultural history of Mount St. Helens. Each class takes an in-depth look at a MOUNT ST. HELENS INSTITUTE : EXPLORE : PACKING LISTS Food and Water. 3+ liters of water : Filled bottles or hydration bladder. Please bring at least 1 hard-sided water bottle. HELENS GeoGirls is a 5-day, 4-night camp geology and technology camp for girls (cis and trans gender) at Mount St. Helens. During camp we will explore the volcanic eruption of Mount St. Helens, the hazards volcanic eruptions pose to human population and the technology used by scientists to monitor volcanoes. MOUNT ST. HELENS INSTITUTE FIELD CAMP HOST Page 2 of 3 ABILITIES: Hosting requires the ability to lift up to 60 lbs., stand and cook on uneven ground, bend and twist. Regular driving for up to 4 hours is common. WORKING HOURS: This is a part-time position with mandatory trainings. Scheduled shifts will be announced at least two weeks in advance with input on Field Camp Host daterequests.

Forty years ago, Mount St. Helens experienced a cataclysmic eruption. On May 18, 1980, the northern side of the volcano collapsed, triggering a forceful blast that raced across the landscape, an explosive eruption column that rose vertically in the air, pyroclastic flows that swept down the mountain, and a series of large mudflows that raced down river valleys toward the Columbia River. Volcano Tuesdays. Learn about the volcanoes of the Pacific Northwest with these educational videos and activities. Activities are best suited for youth grades K-5, but learners of all levels are welcome! Educator guides are available to support distance learning. The Lewis River and its tributaries, on the southern side of Mount St. Helens, are home to several endangered fish species such as Chinook salmon, coho salmon, steelhead trout, and bull trout. During camp we will explore the volcanic eruption of Mount St. Helens, the hazards volcanic eruptions pose to human population and the technology used by scientists to monitor volcanoes. SEDIMENT ON THE MOVE Sediment on the Move. A FREE integrated curriculum designed for 4th grade students aligned with Next Generation Science Standards. Volcanic eruptions can produce large amounts of debris in the form of sediment. Volcanic sediment is a serious hazard that can flood river valleys, bury homes and wash out bridges and roads.
