PALO CORONA REGIONAL PARK Palo Corona Regional Park is one of Central Coast California’s most significant undeveloped open spaces. In the largest land conservation project in Monterey county history, The Nature Conservancy, The Big Sur Land Trust, State of California (through several of its agencies), and Monterey Peninsula Regional Park District partnered to acquire the 10,000-acre Palo Corona Ranch. MARINA DUNES PRESERVE Marina Dunes Preserve. The coastal dunes along our south Monterey Bay form a narrow edge between former dunes where we live and the bay. This strip of land is steadily changing from wind and wave forces. During especially strong winter storms, this change can be quite obvious along the foredune. Beyond the storm-wave run-up area the rateof
GARLAND RANCH REGIONAL PARK A small visitor center is located at Garland and staffed by volunteers. 700 West Carmel Valley Road (approx 8.6 miles east of Highway 1 or 1 mile west of Laureles Grade) PUBLIC ACCESS: Garland Ranch is open to the public for all to enjoy, with no access permit needed to enter the park. NOTE: An access permit is required to enterthe Kahn Ranch
EOLIAN DUNES PRESERVE Eolian Dunes Preserve. This District open space has a long and colorful history of land use, dating back to the Depression era. The sand dunes of what are now Seaside and Sand City were unincorporated hinterlands (back country) with a remote homestead scattered here andthere.
RANGERS - MONTEREY PENINSULA REGIONAL PARK DISTRICT Rangers. The Rangers are responsible for various functions including, trail and facility maintenance and repairs, trail construction and development, supervising crews and volunteer workers, implementing resource conservation and management plans, participating in special events, and patrol activities. CACHAGUA COMMUNITY PARK Cachagua Community Park is a 14-acre park located in the Cachagua area of Carmel Valley. A tiny jewel in the upper Carmel Valley overlooking the Carmel River, the park is a great place for a picnic, game of horseshoes or horseback ride. PARKS REMAIN OPEN/ACTIVITIES, CENTERS & OFFICES CLOSED In response to the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19), effective immediately, Monterey Peninsula Regional Park District (District) has temporarily closed the Garland Ranch Visitor Center and Palo Corona Discovery Center, and suspended all planned group activities at District parks. Marina Dunes Preserve and Cachagua Community Park are also CLOSED, but all other publicly accessible parks and preserves currently remain open for regular use (Palo Corona West/Highway 1 entrance is closed); check back periodically for updates.
