The Solvang Motorcycle Museum, located in Solvang, California, displays a collection of vintage and rare motorcycles as well as European race bikes. The collection is quite broad with something for everyone, ranging from a 1910 FN to the present, and across all makes.The emphasis is

The Solvang Vintage Motorcycle Museum has an extensive collection of vintage motorcycles with an overall focus on racing. You will find a selection of British, Japanese, European and American bikes from the1900's until today.

This is a road bike, converted to a racer, with the bronze racing head (better heat conduction than iron).1965 MV TRIPLE
The MV 500 triple (3 cylinders) is the bike that stopped Honda from winning a 500cc championship before they quit in 1968. The triple was first designed as a 350 to try to beat Honda, who was then dominatingthat class.
1960 500CC JAWA FACTORY RACER 1960 500cc Jawa Factory Racer. This Czechoslovakian dual overhead cam twin was used by the very successful Jawa factory race team. They got 2nd and 3rd in the 1961 350cc world championship, losing out only to an MV Agusta 4 cylinder, and got 4th place in the 1966 500cc world championship. Pretty good considering they were behind the ironcurtain.

1950 VINCENT TT GREY FLASH 1950 Vincent TT Grey Flash. One of 4 bikes prepared by the Vincent Factory for the 1950 Isle of Man TT Race. The two "innovations" for the race were a big valve head and large aluminum crank pin. Both "innovations" were failures and only 1 bike finished. In 1948 Whizzer started selling complete bikes but had to battle Schwinn about patent rights. The small motorcycle killed the Whizzer and they went out of business in 1965, although new Whizzers (made in Taiwan) are now for sale for $2,000. Approximately 200,000 Whizzer engines were made, almost all now in junkyards. 1920 ABC Sopwith. 1936 EXCELSIOR MANXMAN Excelsior (English, not American) were known for their overhead cam road bikes and racers. 1957 BSA Goldstar. The BSA Goldstar was probably the best all around motorcycle ever made. It was not only used on the street as a sport bike but was also a winner at road racing, motocross and oval dirt track racing. Notice that the stock "muffler" is a thinly disguised reverse cone megaphone which is MOTO GUZZI 500CC DOHC V8 The only 8 cylinder gran prix motorcycle ever made was done by Moto Guzzi in 1955. Their single cylinder bikes were getting beaten by the Gilera 4 cylinder bikes so they first tried 6 cylinders and then wentto 8.

The Solvang Motorcycle Museum, located in Solvang, California, displays a collection of vintage and rare motorcycles as well as European race bikes. The collection is quite broad with something for everyone, ranging from a 1910 FN to the present, and across all makes. The emphasis is tilted toward racing motorcycles. At the museum, you will find names such as AJS, BMW, Ducati, Gilera, Matchless, Moto Guzzi, MV, Norton, Triumph, Velocette and Vincent. The museum rotates some of the bikes each month so that the bikes on display are constantly changing and expanding. Check out a recent video from the 2012 Pebble Beach Concourse.
