SHOULD THE WEALTHY PAY MORE TAXES? A number of high-profile politicians have proposed that the wealthy should pay more in taxes. In early 2019, newly elected Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez caused a minor uproar in Washington, DC by proposing to nearly double the income tax rate on top earners. ANTI-WAR MOVEMENTS, FROM VIETNAM TO TODAY This lesson consists of two readings that consider anti-war movements, past and present. The first reading gives an overview of the Vietnam anti-war movement of the 1960s and 70s and discusses its impact. Listening circles give people a chance to say what they are thinking and feeling and can help engender mutual understanding and support among people in stressful times. The first reading examines the argument that the movement’s demands for social change need to be more specific. The second reading looks at some of the things the Movement for Black Lives has accomplished in the last twoyears.
