MOREDUN GROUP
Moredun is committed to promoting livestock health and welfare through research and education and is recognised worldwide for its contribution to research into infectious diseases of farmed livestock. Established by Scottish farmers in 1920, Moredun's work has always been firmly based on addressing the needs of the farming industry. MOREDUN FOUNDATION HOME PAGE The Moredun Foundation is a registered charity that supports livestock health and welfare through research and education initatives.NEMATODIRUS
Disease generally occurs when lambs graze on contaminated pasture at the same time as mass Nematodirus egg hatch. The main symptoms are: Profuse, watery yellowy-green diarrhoea leading to dehydration Reduced appetite & productivity Dull/rough fleece and a "tucked-up"appearance.
MALIGNANT CATARRHAL FEVER (MCF) Malignant Catarrhal Fever (MCF) is a generally fatal disease of cattle, deer, bison and pigs and is the most serious viral disease of farmed deer and bison worldwide. The commonest clinical signs in cattle include high fever, enlarged lymph nodes, mucopurulent discharge from eyes & nose, lesions in the mouth and muzzle, inflammation, cloudinessOPA (JAAGSIEKTE)
Ovine pulmonary adenocarcinoma (OPA, also known as jaagsiekte) is an infectious and fatal lung disease of sheep. It is caused by a virus, known as jaagsiekte sheep retrovirus (JSRV), which infects cells in the lung making them form tumours. The tumour cells then produce more of the virus which can infect new areas of the lung or other sheep.DR PHILIP SKUCE
Philip Skuce is a Principal Scientist at Moredun. He is a graduate of Queens University, Belfast, where he gained a PhD in Parasitology. He continued his research at the Veterinary Sciences Division, Stormont, before joining Moredun in 1995.DR MARA ROCCHI
