We give the name scientist to the type of man who has felt experiment to be a means guiding him to search out the deep truth of life, to lift a veil from its fascinating secrets, and who, in this pursuit, has felt arising within him a love for the mysteries of nature, so passionate as to annihilate the thought of himself. PREPARED ENVIRONMENT TIPS: MONTESSORI FURNITURE FOR Many of the same ideas used in the older child’s environment also apply when furnishing a Montessori infant/toddler environment. For instance, walls should be a light, neutral color and furnishings should be of natural materials and light colors, too. THE ART OF OBSERVATION IN A MONTESSORI CLASSROOM The art of observation in the Montessori classroom is the keystone for every teacher's actions when identifying sensitive periods and encouraging productivity. MONTESSORI CLASSROOM ACTIVITY IDEAS FOR THE FIRST DAY OF The Giving Tree Read aloud Shel Silverstein's The Giving Tree and involve students in a discussion of the types of gifts the tree gave the boy; none of the gifts cost a thing. Then talk about the types of cost-free "gifts" the students can contribute to the class. Prepare a bulletin board that has the silhouette of a tree trunk and branches. MONTESSORI PRESCHOOL MATH MATERIALS: THE SPINDLE BOXES AND Montessori Preschool Math Materials are designed to help students move from concrete quantities to abstract numbers. THE ABSORBENT MIND: CHAPTER 16: FROM UNCONSCIOUS TO Up until now, we have looked at the child as a keen but passive observer of her environment. Absorbing all that she can through her senses, the infant obtains knowledge of her environment through sight, sound, smell, touch, and taste. MONTESSORI’S THREE LEVELS OF OBEDIENCE: DEVELOPING SELF The ability to exercise control over one’s behavior amidst temptation is known as self-discipline. Dr. H. Stephen Glenn, of Developing Capable Young People, and Jane Nelsen, of Positive Discipline, both agree that children below the age of 7 or 8 are really incapable of self-discipline.(Glenn & Nelsen, 2000) In terms of Montessori, immediate gratification and lack of impulse control is a BITING IN THE MONTESSORI TODDLER CLASSROOM: CAUSES AND As much as possible, NAMC’s web blog reflects the Montessori curriculum as provided in its teacher training programs. MONTESSORI VS. CONSTRUCTIVISM: AN Why choose Montessori for your child? Before you can answer why, it is important to understand what Montessori is. Mark Powell wrote an article in Montessori LIFE (Winter 2000) called Can Montessorians and Constructivists Really Be Friends?, which provides a good background into what traditional educational systems are and what is differentabout Montessori.

(Lillard, p. 78) The design of the Montessori environment is purposeful, and it is carefully prepared to meet the needs of the students. Based on the observations of Dr. Montessori, the environment is uniquely tailored for each plane of MONTESSORI PHILOSOPHY: THE THREE STAGES OF NORMALIZATION Normalization is the foundation upon which "spontaneous discipline, continuous and happy work, social sentiments of help and sympathy for others."The Absorbent Mind THE ABSORBENT MIND, CHAPTER 27: THE TEACHER'S PREPARATION The materials should be kept fastidiously in order, dusted, and fully functioning.
