The Imagists were a group of figurative artists who emerged in Chicago in the mid-1960s. They used vibrant color, bold lines, and depicted the human body grossly distorted and highly stylized. Their bizarre portrayals of the human form expanded on Chicago’s artistic tradition of the grotesque established by artists like Ivan Albrightand Leon

ArtZone is MMoCA’s afterschool art program for 4th through 6th grade youth. The program involves students from neighborhood and community centers in a two-hour workshop at the museum that combines engaging gallery discussions with related hands-on art activities. A flexible schedule of ArtZone workshops led by an experienced art educator is THE CHICAGO IMAGISTS Chicago art historian Franz Schulze originated the term “Imagists” in his classic book Fantastic Images (1972), in which he catalogued the history of twentieth-century art in Chicago. The term was used to describe artists who emerged in the years after World War II, primarily those associated with the Monster Roster—artists like Leon Golub, June Leaf, Nancy Spero, and H.C. Romare Bearden first made ink drawings of the Greek adventurer who fought in battles against the city of Troy after his own service as an infantryman in World War II. With its mix of music, entertainment, and outdoor dining, as well as nearly 500FOR KIDS – MMOCA
ArtZone is MMoCA’s afterschool art program for 4th through 6th grade youth. The program involves students from neighborhood and community centers in a two-hour workshop at the museum that combines engaging gallery discussions with related hands-on art activities. A flexible schedule of ArtZone workshops led by an experienced art educator is THE CHICAGO IMAGISTS Chicago art historian Franz Schulze originated the term “Imagists” in his classic book Fantastic Images (1972), in which he catalogued the history of twentieth-century art in Chicago. The term was used to describe artists who emerged in the years after World War II, primarily those associated with the Monster Roster—artists like Leon Golub, June Leaf, Nancy Spero, and H.C. While Ray Yoshida was an undergraduate student in the liberal arts at the University of Hawaii, he corresponded with his sister, who was living in Chicago and sent him postcards from the Art Institute. Thus inspired, Yoshida applied to transfer to the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC). 1943–2020. Chicago native Suellen Rocca earned her bachelor’s degree from the School of the Art Institute (SAIC) in 1964. Rocca has identified Ray Yoshida as the most important instructor of her SAIC career, in addition to other sources of inspiration that came from herpersonal world.
