Hello my name is Stephen Burgess. I am a Developer from England, currently based in San Francisco. I earn my bread with HTML, CSS & JavaScript development but I'll happily play around with any language & have a passion for learning new things. I really like SASS, monkeys & Arsenal Football Club. There's plenty of ways to get in touch withme.

Given a random matrix, where each cell is either 1 or 0, determine the groups of contiguous cells that have the value 1. Cells are considered contiguous if they are neighboring to the north, south, east or west; i.e. no disgonals. The solution to the problem can be visualised in the below image. Arnaud:. Nice! Good selection of HTML5/Canvas links. Hopefully very soon JS will catch up on AS3 syntax and improvements. It does indeed feel a awful lot like writing AS2 (i.e. all the little scoping “worries” are not nice to deal with).MINIMAL MONKEY
It’s inspired by this piece of art work from my good friend Tobias. At first I made it so the art work was just generated by code but it was kind of boring. I then added the interaction so the depth amount was defined by the mouse position.MINIMAL MONKEY
Following on from my ColorWall application I posted last week here is an example that uses thumbnails loaded from Flickr (with a search tag of “sunset”). It works in pretty much the same way as described here, but instead of using the drawing API to create coloured boxes, I am using Ruben’s DistortImage class. You can view the example here.MINIMAL MONKEY
The first big tasty project I worked on at TMW was an online scrapbook for Persil. The designs were done by Fed and once it was all put together it turned out to be a really nice project. The application allows you to upload photo’s, use some clip art, draw pictures andwrite stuff.

OK so everyone’s doing it and here’s my version. The first time I saw augmented reality in Flash was back at FOTB last year, which gave me a good idea of how it works. When I first got briefed on this job I wasn’t aware of any class libraries I could use and I thought it was going to be a very challenging and long job.MINIMAL MONKEY

It’s that time of the year again when people write off Flash saying this year really is the end of flash with HTML5* taking over the world. I’m not so sure and here are my thoughts why. Regular readers may have noticed over the past year or so an increase in HTML5, JavaScript and CSS experiments on this site and a lot less Flash.MINIMAL MONKEY
